    The Housing Rights Center (“HRC”) is seeking a full-time Outreach Coordinator to provide education and outreach on fair housing and landlord-tenant issues throughout Los Angeles County.

    BACKGROUND:

    HRC is one of the nation’s largest non-profits solely dedicated to achieving discrimination-free housing. HRC has a full-time staff of approximately 42 and offers: (1) housing discrimination investigation, (2) enforcement and impact litigation, (3) outreach and education, and (4) general landlord/tenant counseling.

    HRC’s mission is to actively support and promote fair housing through education, advocacy, and litigation, to the end that all persons have the opportunity to secure the housing they desire and can afford, without regard to their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, marital status, disability, ancestry, age, source of income or other characteristics protected by law. The outreach team conducts trainings, holds workshops and clinics, and produces materials and media to support HRC’s outreach and education goals.

    This full-time, temporary position ending in November 2025 is hybrid-remote with the majority of work performed off-site. This position requires frequent local travel in Los Angeles County for outreach events (workshops, booths, and literature distribution), along with reliable and insured personal transportation. The Outreach Coordinator’s work will be conducted primarily at HRC’s main office, off-site (primarily at workshops and events), and remotely. This position requires weekly local travel in Los Angeles County for outreach events (workshops, booths, and literature distribution), with less frequent travel to Ventura County (once a month at most).

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Plan, promote, and conduct workshops, presentations, and trainings on fair housing laws for audiences of tenants, landlords, managers, non-profit agencies, and government staff.
      • Conduct interviews and upload data from interviews.
      • Maintain program records through accurate and timely data entry and reporting.
      • Engage directly with the communities served by staffing outreach booths at resource fairs and hosting walk-in clinic sessions.
      • Deliver and distribute outreach and education materials throughout Los Angeles and Ventura County.
      • Assist with improving fair housing outreach and education materials and developing new fair housing outreach and education materials.
      • Create and post engaging content to social media pages and website.
      • Maintain and promote HRC’s relationships with city officials, local organizations and community-based agencies.
      • Stay informed of current fair housing and landlord-tenant laws.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

      • A demonstrated sincere interest in helping others;
      • Demonstrated interest in civil rights and social justice issues.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
      • Comfort with public speaking and ability to engage an audience.
      • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
      • Familiarity with using applications such as Excel, Adobe InDesign, Canva, and MS Forms.
      • Reliable and strong internet connection (able to conduct presentations via live video).
      • This office position requires occasional lifting and moving of office materials 25 pounds or less.
      • Must possess a valid California's Driver License, proof of auto liability insurance, and have the full-time use of a personal vehicle to enable local travel through Los Angeles County and Ventura County.
      • Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
      • This position requires a 40-hour work week with flexibility to accommodate occasional weekend and evening hours.
      • Previous experience and knowledge of landlord/tenant laws preferred; Training provided.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    Salary range: $52,000 - $60,000, depending on experience. HRC offers an excellent benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance.A generous paid holiday, vacation, and sick leave package is also provided.
