    About BYP100

    Founded in 2013, BYP100 (Black Youth Project 100) is a member-based organization of Black youth activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people. We are building a network focused on transformative leadership development, direct action organizing, advocacy, and education.

    Our work is generally centered on ending systems of anti-Blackness and emphasizing the urgency of protecting folks living on the margins of society. As of 2022, BYP100 is a unionized workplace with BYP100 Workers United.

    This position is a non-bargaining unit position and is not represented by the Chicago and Midwest Regional Board, Workers United.

    About the Membership Chair

    We're looking for a passionate organizer with experience in developing political education programs, training, and facilitation to join the BYP100 staff team. Our ideal candidate is in love and in alignment with BYP100's mission and is ready to join a dynamic team to help design our member leadership infrastructure.

    This position works closely with the National Co-Director and Political Education Committee to create and implement BYP100’s strategies and tactics around our leadership development work. They will also directly coordinate those supporting our political education series.

    Key Responsibilities

    Membership Recruitment & Retention

    • Designing a national membership recruitment and retention strategy - including a ladder of engagement - and supporting chapters in building out local processes
    • Engaging with chapters to identify successes and challenges and facilitate problem solving with members
    • Evaluating recruitment and retention strategies by identifying chapter growth or decline and compliance with membership requirements using EveryAction
    • Managing member database, ensuring integrity of the data
    • Providing [monthly?] membership reports identifying growth, declines, and learnings
    • Supporting chapters with planning and executing successful base-building events

    Member Leadership Development

    • Designing strategy for a member leadership development that includes internal and external training and facilitation that is value centered and aligned with the goals of the chapter and organization
    • Designing curriculum for training and development modules that are responsive to the needs of the members and chapter - including (but not limited to) BQF, abolition, transformative and restorative justice.
    • Designing strategy for a political education that includes internal and external training and facilitation that is value centered and aligned with the goals of the chapter and organization
    • Designing curriculum for political education modules that are responsive to the needs of the chapter and organization - including (but not limited to) workshops around theories of disruptive direct action, BYP100’s theory of change and organizing
    • Supporting members with campaign development and implementation

    Member Convenings

    • Working closely with the National Co-Director and Director of Culture to execute an annual all member convening, local chapter retreats, and HSC retreats (virtual and in person)
    • Supporting promotion and registration for events (national, regional + local)
    • Assessing and responding to general member inquiries

    Benefits

    BYP100 pays 100% of employer-sponsored medical and dental insurance for employees and their dependents, as well as premiums for short-term disability and a $50,000 life insurance policy for the employee.

    BYP100 provides a technology allowance $50 per pay period/up to $1200 per year to help offset telephone, internet, and other small out of pocket tech costs. This will be considered a fringe benefit and these monies will be taxed.
