    Position Summary: Full-time, salaried Park Manager. 35 hours/week. 2 positions open.

    Organizational Background:

    The Philadelphia Holocaust Remembrance Foundation’s (PHRF) maintains and operates the Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza (Memorial Plaza) located on Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway (at 16th Street). The Memorial Plaza is home to the first public memorial to the Holocaust in North America.

    PHRF maintains the Memorial Plaza in perpetuity and provides ongoing opportunities for learning and engagement. The Memorial Plaza welcomes over 10,000 visitors each year who come to site to reflect and learn about the Holocaust.

    Park managers are responsible for overseeing the Memorial Plaza's maintenance and operations. They ensure the Memorial Plaza is safe and clean so that visitors may have a reflective and educational visit in the space. Furthermore, they are in charge of monitoring all approved activities in the Plaza and ensuring all visitors behave appropriately.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Ensures the Memorial Plaza’s cleanliness, including sweeping the site 3x per shift (and as needed), removing trash from planters, and other general daily upkeep.
    2. Daily inspection of Memorial Plaza infrastructure including plants, planters, signage. Reports any damage and/or vandalism to supervisor.
    3. Oversees landscape management, including communications and contract compliance with outside contractors.
    4. Manages special events operations within Memorial Plaza in coordination with other staff.
    5. Ensures public safety (e.g., liaises with law enforcement personnel, identifies and mitigates safety hazards, implements and promotes safety procedures, provides visitor assistance, monitors special event safety, facilitates weather emergencies).
    6. Manages visitor relations (e.g., addresses visitor questions and/or issues, provides basic information and education).

    Qualifications:

    The position is ideal for an individual who is dedicated to park management in an urban environment. S/he has the capacity to manage competing priorities. Each park manager is expected to work a total of 35 hours each week, typically over 4 days on a rotating schedule from Monday to Sunday.

    Background in Holocaust education is not essential provided the candidate is committed to learning basic information about this history. This position provides excellent opportunities to learn about the management of a public memorial space and the operations of a small nonprofit organization. Graduate or part-time students are welcome to submit an application.

    1. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree is preferred but not essential. In addition, some relevant experience in park management, building and grounds maintenance, landscaping, or other related areas is necessary.
    2. Ability to interact with the public in a friendly and professional manner, as well as the ability to respectfully but directly address inappropriate behavior on site.
    3. Appreciation for issues related to the Holocaust, antisemitism, and discrimination is preferred. Ability to quickly learn about these issues is a must, if not currently knowledgeable.

    Important Notes:

    1. Park Managers are required to be on site during their shifts. A park booth that can function as an office and storage will be available onsite.
    2. Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort.
    3. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, temperature or noise extremes, or traffic hazards.
