    Description

    AZ AANHPI for Equity/Advocates is seeking an experienced Youth Leadership Program Coordinator to assist with the planning and implementation of a wide range of projects within our Youth Department alongside our Youth Director. Our current youth projects include an annual summer Fellowship Program, Art Advocacy Fellowship Program, Youth Climate Camp, & Culminating Projects led by youth participants, personal development and relevant workshops and other curriculum implementation, internship placement and coordination within the AANHPI team, and managing engagement and support of student groups at high schools and universities including Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and other institutions. You will be responsible for the support and contributing to the overall success of each project.

    Type of Role: Hybrid remote/in-person role based in Tempe, Arizona. Travel will be required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Help to plan, facilitate, and lead the summer Youth Fellowship (civic engagement) program.
    • Help to plan, host, and lead trainings and events for youth involved in our organization
    • Help mentor and guide youth fellows post-fellowship with their individual culminating projects and staying involved with the organization
    • Help coordinate the Fellowship Mentors (past fellows who mentor current fellows)
    • Table for student and organization-wide events and/or table at our youth’s events.
    • Help with the expansion of Students for Equity clubs across Arizona through recruitment and relationship building with youth
    • Help facilitate workshops for youth members on topics including critical thinking, leadership, and confidence building.
    • Develop new workshops for youth members based on youth needs.
    • Organizing youth at high school and university age levels for student engagement in Maricopa and Pima Counties.
    • Assist student clubs with budgeting and ordering materials
    • Table for student events and/or table at their events.
    • Recruit and manage volunteers.
    • Be a mentor/guide for student participants and treat them respectfully as equals.
    • Help to coordinate intern program/flow to pair youth participants with AANHPI staff members for short-term internship placements.
    • Support the development and launch of a new youth podcast show.
    • Lead with and nurture effective communication within the youth interns/participants and volunteers.
    • Lead youth members in initiating and setting goals for their projects and internships based on their personal and educational growth.
    • Ensure youth program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies, prioritizing the safety of youth members at all times.
    • Work closely with the Youth Director to strategically develop and implement youth program plans.
    • Other responsibilities as needed.

    Requirements:

    • 2+ years of experience assisting programs and/or community organizing for a non-profit organization or similar/equivalent experience, especially youth related programs.
      • Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:
        • Working in AANHPI or immigrant communities;
        • Leading trainings on community organizing principles or skills;
        • Issue area expertise around the intersection of criminalization and immigration; climate; AANHPI representation and cross-racial solidarity
        • Intergenerational organizing experience;
        • Multi-entity organizing experience (e.g. 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and/or PAC);
        • Working for elected officials or in government in another capacity;
        • Bilingual in English and an Asian/Pacific Islander language or Spanish
    • Experience working with youth.
    • Comfortability with public speaking and conveying the youth program contents
    • Experience working with vulnerable individuals who are directly impacted by oppression.
    • Willing and able to connect with our youth members as equals and with openness and compassion.
    • Knowledge, understanding, and passion for social justice and human rights for all.
    • Approach the work with an intersectional lens that uplifts our community members who are most marginalized by white supremacist capitalism.
    • Travel is required within Arizona and out of state as needed for in-person programming with youth groups.
    • Computer proficiency and willingness to use shared team software for project management, file sharing, internal communication, etc.
