    About Vote Mama

Vote Mama builds the political power of moms.

Vote Mama PAC is the first PAC in the country dedicated to supporting Democratic moms running for office up and down the ballot and across the country.

Vote Mama Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, is the leading source of research and advocacy on moms' political participation and works to break the structural barriers they face when running for and serving in elected office.

Vote Mama Lobby, a 501(c)(4) organization, is dedicated to building the political power of moms and families.

    About the Role

Vote Mama seeks a strategic, innovative, and mission-driven Senior Director of Communications to join our growing team. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape the national conversation around family-friendly policies and women’s political leadership, while elevating the public profile of our Founder and CEO.

In this role, you will lead a comprehensive communications strategy across our three entities—Vote Mama PAC, Vote Mama Foundation, and Vote Mama Lobby—and manage messaging and visibility efforts for our Founder and CEO. You’ll oversee national media relations, social media, digital storytelling, brand positioning, and strategic content development.

This role will initially focus on managing a small team including communications consultants and an in-house media relations manager. As the role evolves, you’ll work with leadership to build out a robust, fully in-house communications team, including digital communications and content creation staff.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in high-visibility, high-stakes environments; who brings deep knowledge of the political and media landscape; and who is excited to lead powerful messaging efforts that connect policy, advocacy, and lived experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications Strategy & Execution

    • Lead and implement a comprehensive, multi-entity communications strategy.
    • Translate complex policy and advocacy work into compelling, accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
    • Oversee digital content strategy, including social media, email campaigns, press, website, and brand narrative.
    • Collaborate with the Founder and CEO to shape and promote her thought leadership through op-eds, media engagement, public speaking, and digital content.
    • Drive media coverage and increase brand visibility through strategic press outreach and influencer engagement.

    Team Leadership & Collaboration

    • Manage communications consultants and staff, with an eye toward building an in-house communications team.
    • Supervise the media relations manager and digital content contributors.
    • Partner with organizational leadership to ensure alignment of messaging across campaigns, programs, and platforms.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, development, and program teams to support their communications needs.

    Brand Development & Thought Leadership

    • Position Vote Mama and our Founder and CEO as thought leaders on issues like equitable family policies, democratic systems reform, and inclusive representation.
    • Create and amplify engaging content for multiple platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, blogs, video reels).
    • Ensure consistent voice, tone, and messaging across all communications channels.

    Impact Measurement & Learning

    • Develop and track metrics to evaluate communications performance and audience engagement.
    • Use data and analytics to inform decision-making and optimize communications strategies.

    Who You Are

    Required Experience

    • 8+ years of experience in communications strategy, public relations, or political communications, including in supervisory roles.
    • Strong understanding of the U.S. political landscape, including campaign communications and grassroots advocacy.
    • Demonstrated success in securing press coverage, managing crisis communications, and developing key messaging for diverse audiences.
    • Experience managing digital platforms and content, including social media (Instagram and LinkedIn), web development oversight, and email campaign collaboration.
    • Proven ability to create and produce multimedia content—especially short-form video, reels, and other social-first formats.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with a track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams.
    • Excellent project management and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills across long-form and short-form content.
    • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain discretion.
    • Deep alignment with Vote Mama’s mission, a passion for grassroots organizing, and commitment to progressive policy change.

    Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

    • Master’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Marketing, or a related field.
    • Background in social psychology, audience behavior, or strategic narrative development.
    • Experience building or scaling communications infrastructure in a start-up or growing organization.
