    Descrição

    Office Manager

    Boston, MA

The Public Interest Network is hiring an Office Manager for our Boston office. With more than a dozen organizations — Environment America, PIRG, the National Environmental Law Center, Community Action Works and more — our Network is winning positive social change for the environment and the public interest.

Our Boston office is home to MASSPIRG and Environment Massachusetts and serves as one of the hub offices for all of the organizations in The Public Interest Network. Our staff have won campaigns in Massachusetts and across the country, including getting resources to remove lead from school drinking water, improving Boston’s public transportation system, and banning ‘neonics’ that poison bee populations. The Boston Office Manager oversees office operations to help ensure the effectiveness of our organizations and staff.

    Key Responsibilities

The Boston Office Manager will work with our Boston leadership team to manage our office and support our staff. This position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment in making decisions in matters of significance. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Managing the everyday functions of the office including maintenance and oversight of supplies, furniture, machinery, and office spaces. Serve as the liaison to building management.
    • Overseeing the office’s budget, including tracking and processing expenses and working with leadership to propose an annual budget that meets the needs of the office within our organizational spending principles.
    • Managing an office where 40 staff and Network visitors work, including maintaining internet systems, maintaining and improving organizational systems, ensuring security protocols, and proposing and managing contracts with vendors. The office manager also coordinates with administrators for the organizations and departments housed in the office, working together to complete projects and ensure a smooth-running office.
    • Coordinating meetings, social events, and office projects for all staff.
    • Additionally, the office manager will spend half of their time working directly with one of our internal departments on their work to support our organizations, such as recruitment, legal, financial, or digital. This additional role will be communicated during the interview and offer stage.

    Qualifications

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is passionate about political change, the issues we work on, and about learning how a non-profit operates. We are looking for candidates who are eager to join a team, work collaboratively and would bring their best to work everyday including:

    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
    • A positive attitude and the ability to work effectively with all different types of people
    • Comfort in maintaining technical systems
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    Location: Boston, MA

    Compensation and Benefits

The target annual compensation for this position is $37,000-38,000 in the first year. The Public Interest Network offers an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, paid time off, a commuter benefit program, a 401(k) plan with employer match, parental leave, long term disability insurance, and may include needs-based student loan assistance. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.

Why work with The Public Interest Network? Here are 10 reasons: https://publicinterestnetwork.org/why-work-with-us/

    About The Public Interest Network

The Public Interest Network operates and supports more than a dozen organizations – including PIRG, Environment America and their state affiliates – committed to a shared vision of a better world and a strategic approach to change.

Our work focuses on the problems that arise from America’s single-minded pursuit of endless economic growth: We’re still burning fossil fuels even though it’s changing the climate. We keep giving antibiotics to healthy livestock, even though it leads to “superbugs” that are antibiotic-resistant. We use plastic products for a few minutes only to throw them away so they pollute the oceans for centuries.

And our approach is unique: We focus on the big picture, but are relentlessly pragmatic and prioritize making a difference in people’s lives over making a statement. We work with everybody to make change happen, political ideology aside, championing good ideas wherever they come from. And we are serious about the work – we set clear goals, benchmarks and systems to measure our progress, and hold ourselves accountable to making change now and building for the future.

This unique approach gives our staff an opportunity to make a concrete difference for the environment and the public interest – just as hundreds of dedicated staff have done over our 50 year history. If you want to add to this change-making legacy; if you have the passion and the drive that it takes; if you're looking for a mission, not just a job – then let’s talk.
