    JOB DESCRIPTION FOR M.U.S.T. Program Director

    Job Overview: The Program Director will be responsible for ensuring that M.U.S.T. 's holistic approach to youth development and mentoring continues the liberation of Black males through near-peer mentoring. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for the development, oversight, and supervision of M.U.S.T. Mentoring Programs. As a member of the leadership team, the program director will develop the vision for continually improving programs and outings, partner with the program coordinator, and help them develop as leaders and advocates in service of our mentors and mentees.

    The Program Director will lead ongoing program improvement efforts and develop new programs as strategic opportunities arise. The Program Director represents the M.U.S.T. in partnership with a variety of statewide partners and stakeholders who support our work.

    The Program Director is responsible for providing or coordinating effective supervision for all staff in the department. The Program Director develops and implements a professional development plan to ensure that staff are actively engaged in training that supports them in working effectively with young Black males and meeting their annual performance targets.

    The Program Director will lead program evaluation efforts, make data-informed management and program improvement decisions, and ensure programmatic continuity and fidelity. A key responsibility is to ensure a consistently safe and inclusive program environment for all participants and staff.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    This successful candidate will have a deep commitment and passion for the liberation of Black males, along with relevant lived experience, credibility, and proven effectiveness in supporting young Black males and will have exceptional skills in leading, mentoring, and managing a team, as well as in staff development and youth development. The candidate will also exhibit a personal and demonstrated commitment to equity and anti-oppression practices in their previous work or community-based experiences.

    In summary, the PROGRAM DIRECTOR will:

    Program Strategy (50%)

    • Develop and oversee the implementation of programs that align with the organization's mission.
    • Creatively plan and implement high-quality meetings and programs for both groups mentoring events and staff training sessions.
    • Recruit and interview rising 8th-grade youth
    • Act as a liaison between the youth’s parents/guardians, the M.U.S.T. program, and Seattle Public Schools.
    • Create, manage, and operate within a budget; maintain financial accounts; create spending reports.
    • Identify, approach, and network with schools and community organizations to recruit Mentees, Mentors, and volunteers to M.U.S.T.
    • Oversee graduation plans for all youth
    • Design and improve programs for youths.

    Program Staff: (30%)

    • Supervise all program staff.
    • Regularly communicate with team members, including weekly check-in with the Executive Director, monthly written reports on mentees/mentors for grant writing, staff training, and other meetings as necessary.
    • Train new staff, create work schedules, and evaluate the performance of Mentors and Coaches.
    • Check in with Mentors (weekly) and ensure the SmartSuite data is entered correctly and updated.
    • Regularly communicate with team members, including monthly check-ins, weekly Mentor meetings with coaches, monthly staff training, and other meetings as necessary.
    • Recruit, interview, and vet candidates for all employee-mentor and volunteer coach positions.
    • Create work schedules and evaluate the performance of mentors and coaches.
    • Ensures program compliance in collaboration with ED and COO

    Admin and Data Collection (20%)

    • Manage Budget
    • Oversee Smart Suite data with strategy
    • Prepare reports and presentations for the board and other stakeholders.
    • Manage program budgets and ensure financial accountability.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
    • Background in education preferred
    • 4-7 years of demonstrated leadership and management experience, successfully leading teams and driving organizational outcomes, with a strong track record of developing, implementing, and evaluating program strategies to achieve measurable impact.
    • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance
    • Proficient with technology
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
    • Experience working with adolescents and emerging adults. (14-25)
    • No convicted felonies of any form of child endangerment.
    • Experience in relational conflict resolution and/or crisis management
    • Conduct self with integrity; self-disciplined and able to work independently
    • Clear and effective communication skills.
    • Willingness to collaborate as a team.
    • Able to work flexible hours, including some Saturdays.

    • Salary: $85,000- $90,000 based on experience

    Work schedule:

    • Monday to Friday and some weekends.
    • Day shift: Program Directors can set their hours.
    • The start and end of the school year are very busy times

    . Those busy times can be offset by intentionally working fewer hours in the summer and winter.

    Work remotely:

    Even before COVID-19, M.U.S.T. understood the value of being able to work remotely. The flexible schedule and the ability to work from home are a bonus. We require two days in the office to promote collaboration with other team members.

    Hiring process:

    You will go through three rounds of interviews with a final decision being made by the Executive Director.
