    The Development Manager will play a critical role in supporting One Degree’s financial sustainability by managing and expanding the organization’s fundraising activities. This position will focus on grant writing, funder stewardship, and managing a portfolio of funder relationships. The ideal candidate is a proactive and relationship-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong understanding of funding systems.

    Description

    Role and Responsibilities:

    Grant Writing

    • Manage the entire grant lifecycle, including research, writing, submission, and reporting for a portfolio of funders.
    • Meet all deadlines for grant applications, reports, and other deliverables, ensuring accuracy and quality.
    • Develop and maintain an annual calendar of grant deadlines to coordinate reviews and submissions.
    • Write compelling proposals, reports, and other materials that align with funder priorities and organizational goals.

    Prospecting & Pipeline Development

    • Research and identify new funding opportunities, including foundations, corporate funders, and government grants.
    • Develop and manage a pipeline of potential prospects to support organizational goals.
    • Leverage tools such as Salesforce to track opportunities and maintain accurate records of funder interactions.

    Funder Stewardship & Relationship Management

    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders, serving as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of small- to medium-sized funders.
    • Collaborate with the CEO on high-priority funder relationships and support key meetings, including preparation and follow-ups.
    • Develop and implement strategies to retain and upgrade existing funders, ensuring year-over-year revenue growth.
    • Oversee funder communications, including newsletters, stewardship reports, and the Annual Impact Report.
    • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure consistent messaging in funder outreach.

    Event Planning & Logistics

    • Manage logistical aspects of fundraising events, including funder cultivation events and site visits.
    • Coordinate event deliverables, such as invitations, follow-ups, and acknowledgments.

    Data Management & Reporting

    • Ensure funder data and activities are accurately reflected in Salesforce in real-time.
    • Generate reports on pipeline health, fundraising progress, and projections.
    • Analyze data to inform strategy and highlight successes.

    Qualifications:

    Required Experience

    • At least 3 years of development or fundraising experience, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
    • Proven success in securing 5- to 6-figure grants from foundations and other funding sources.
    • Demonstrated experience managing funder relationships and delivering on grant deadlines.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to craft compelling proposals, reports, and funder communications.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders, from funders to internal teams.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, with strong organizational skills.
    • Proficiency in Salesforce (or similar CRM), Google Suite, and project management tools.
    • Familiarity with fundraising systems and strategies, including prospect research and moves management.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with grant portals and submission processes.
    • Background in managing communications projects such as newsletters or annual reports.
    • Knowledge of DEI principles and their application in nonprofit fundraising.
    • Experience with funders in California (Bay Area, Los Angeles, and statewide).

    Location:

    One Degree is a completely remote organization, however, this position will be required to regularly attend work events and some business functions in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and other key regions. Candidates must be eligible to work and be based in the United States. Unfortunately, we cannot provide sponsorship at this time.

    Benefits:

    The salary range is $70k–85k for the Bay Area and other commensurate cost-of-living locations. For other locations, salary will be commensurate with local market rates.

    Work Environment and Conditions

    One Degree is a completely remote organization, with optional in-person social gatherings every 1-2 months and a required in-person retreat 2-4 times a year.
