    Bedford 2030 is a 501(c)3 that addresses the urgent issue of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preserving natural resources. Since 2010, we have engaged and inspired our community in Bedford and beyond through campaigns, tools, and programs that drive action. We are seeking a Program Director to join our strong, highly-motivated team to help advance our Climate Action Now movement.

    Role:

    The Program Director develops new programs and directs the evolution and growth of current programs, tools, or campaigns to engage the public or policymakers in actions or measures that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Programs are focused on our priority action areas of Buildings, Transportation, and Natural Climate Solutions (Rooted Solutions).

    The Program Director provides strategic direction regarding communication and outreach around existing programs and evaluates program effectiveness, replicability, and fundability.

    Principal Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Planning: Work closely with the Executive Director to establish short and long-term program goals. Identify opportunities for program expansion, improvement, and innovation. Work closely with the Communications Manager on strategy for program-related communications, execution, and evaluation.
    • Program Development and Management: Lead the planning, execution, and management of all programs and projects, ensuring they are aligned with the organization’s mission and goals. Develop clear program objectives, timelines, and budgets.
    • Staff Leadership and Supervision: Manage and support the Program Administrator (whose role is to collaborate with and support the Director), interns, and initiative-related volunteers. Foster a positive, collaborative work environment and provide guidance, feedback, and training as needed.
    • Resource Management and Budgeting: Oversee program budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure resources are used efficiently. Prepare financial reports and collaborate with the Executive Director and Development Manager to secure funding through grants and partnerships.
    • Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Building: Build and maintain relationships with community partners, government agencies, funders, and other stakeholders. Represent the organization at events, meetings, and conferences.
    • Program Data Collection and Reporting: Track program outcomes and impact. Collect and analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness, prepare reports, and communicate results to stakeholders, funders, and board members.
    • General Data: Conduct research and analyze relevant data to support program initiatives. Distill complex information into clear, concise narratives and visual formats, such as graphs and reports, to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders and team members.
    • Multi-tasking and Prioritization: Juggle competing priorities effectively, ensuring that deadlines are met and tasks are completed to a high standard. Quickly adjust to changing needs or circumstances.
    • Problem Solving and Adaptability: Proactively identify challenges and develop solutions to ensure the success of each program. Adjust plans as needed to meet evolving needs and resources.
    • Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the subject matter expert on local, state, and national environmental developments within our priority areas. Monitor emerging trends, policy changes, and best practices to inform program strategies and organizational goals. Regularly brief the team on key updates and insights, enabling the organization to stay proactive and responsive in a rapidly evolving landscape.

    Demonstrated Ability to:

    • Propose, plan, and carry out comprehensive projects independently
    • Develop effective budgets, timelines, strategies, tactics
    • Track results and evaluate the success of a project
    • Manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and adapt to shifting priorities
    • Manage outside contractors (graphic designer, printer, for example)
    • Write clear and compelling plans, reports, emails
    • Forge and maintain relationships with stakeholders
    • Meet goals on a tight schedule
    • Translate industry knowledge into concepts for public education
    • Understand and communicate environmental problems and solutions effectively

    Qualifications/Competencies:

    • Comfortable working with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and basic database management
    • Experience using, or aptitude/willingness to learn, team efficiency and communication tools such as Asana, Slack, WordPress, Canva, Capcut, Constant Contact, Kit, etc.
    • Licensed and insured driver with a reliable car
    • Willingness to learn new technologies

    Compensation:

    $60,000 - $75,000 based on experience.
