JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Workforce Development Manager, our new Workforce Support Coordinator will serve as a key member of the Workforce Development team in close collaboration with the Student Support Program team.
- Our Workforce Development Manager maintains workforce development programs and pre-apprentice partnerships.
- Our Student Support Services Program works to address social and economic barriers that affect student/student persistence and success and provides support for academic, professional, and personal goal attainment.
- This is a direct service position that involves regular meetings with the workforce team, instructors, and/or other staff and referral partners, presentations and workshop facilitation, onboarding, and continuing support of workforce program students including outreach and continuing support for program graduates. The position also may require recruitment and workforce development support (resume development, interview preparation) for evening classes 1-2 nights per week.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support program goals related to student retention, academic outcomes, job placements, and training and employment transitions.
- Help students with resumes, cover letters, job applications, interviewing skills, and soft skill development through one-on-one sessions and weekly or biweekly workshops (in person and/or remote) on barrier reduction and career goal attainment.
- Maintain up-to-date resource list; refer, and/or transition students to appropriate resources (e.g., job training, employment options, PA CareerLink® Centers, OVR, social services) and assist students in making contact for transitions.
- Assess skills, experience, potential barriers, strengths, and career interests of students to identify the most appropriate career pathways, training, and job openings.
- Collaboratively assist students with creating career maps, goal setting and developing goal-aligned action plans, tracking progress towards goal attainment.
- Document and track student outcomes and interactions using program database
- Provide case management support primarily through one-on-one meetings (in person and/or remote), to overcome barriers to attendance and success. Assist with referrals to access governmental and community support services as needed.
- Support Transition Goals through one-on-one meetings (in person and/or remote) to ensure understanding and successful completion of application processes, including financial aid, assessments, and other procedural requirements, to provide bridge from BeLit to the new program.
- Assist Workforce Solutions Director with outreach to employers and union representatives.
- Utilize technology to enhance program delivery, tracking, and monitoring of all metrics related to service delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years’ experience advising or counseling adults, especially those from low-income communities, to meet employment goals highly desirable.
- Experience developing and facilitating workshops preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with, build rapport with, and motivate diverse groups of people to achieve goals.
- Analysis and synthesis skills, including the ability to collect information, determine key objectives, and act strategically to promote desired results. Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and public speaking

- Ability to work as a member of a team and maintain a student-focused, solutions-oriented outlook.
- Ability to work well with diverse populations and develop positive relationships with students, colleagues, and partners in the field.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong oral communication and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail; ability to write clear and concise case notes and other communications.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite; experience using Salesforce and Microsoft Office 365/SharePoint a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Full-time, some evening and weekend work may be required
- Weekly travel between Beyond Literacy and partner program sites is expected
- Primarily onsite schedule with some hybrid/remote flexibility
