    About the Job

    Reporting to the Director of Membership, the Associate Director of Membership Growth is responsible for implementing strategies and processes specifically focused on growing the membership base to support the growth of revenue from member organizations. The Associate Director will develop and implement strategies that grow the membership base and maintain systems for tracking ongoing outreach to prospective members, including coordinating the activities/involvement of others in the organization in support of these efforts.

    Core Functions of the Role:

    • Conduct market research to identify high-potential market segments and identify potential members

    o Map the overall market, define segments, and assess growth potential of each market segment to determine where to invest business development resources

    o Determine appropriate channels and messaging for each segment

    o Identify prospective members through a combination of this market research and prospects identified by other GIIN staff

    • Lead prospective member outreach and cultivation to bring them into membership

    o Maintain lists/ documentation of membership prospects and state of the pipeline

    • Develop a systematic approach to conducting outreach, follow-up and discussing progress with the team
    • Ensure that organizations potentially interested in membership receive follow-up contacts through both personalized communication and digital marketing communication methods, leveraging the GIIN’s existing network and developing member prospects from outside GIIN’s primary network
    • Conduct comprehensive due diligence and Know Your Customer (KYC) checks on prospective members, analyzing financial records, legal documents, and other relevant information to assess risk and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Develop and implement recruitment strategies for accelerating new member acquisition, including associated outreach and marketing campaigns.
      • Assess and determine appropriate channels for outreach
      • Implement marketing campaigns in close collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team
      • Develop and implement a system for tracking various recruitment strategies/approaches and analyzing their effectiveness

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Support assessments of the potential for evolving membership offerings and the dues structure to fit new market segments
      • Through analysis, identify new programming work streams and member services that could help to attract and retain members
      • Provide input to ongoing updating of membership dues structure and terms
    • Support the planning and execution of events intended to attract new members to the GIIN
    • Support the development of revenue targets and projections, as directed

    The Associate Director, Membership Growth must be strongly motivated by the vision of the GIIN which is of a world where financial markets serve all members of society and where finance plays a central role in solving the social and environmental challenges facing the global community. The Associate Director, Membership Growth would ideally also have a strong understanding of the impact investing ecosystem, how the various organization types within it interact with and influence one another, and what resources they need to succeed – or bring a strong willingness to learn. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in a sales, business development or similar role.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated track record of success in growing a membership network (or similar trade/industry network) or investor/client/user base. Experience with impact investing is a plus.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (including but not limited to Finance, Business, Economics, International Development, Policy) or equivalent experience in sales or business development (financial services industry preferred)
    • 7 or more years of relevant work experience showing ability to successfully manage projects and key stakeholder relationships towards desired outcomes
    • Strong stakeholder engagement skills (e.g., ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; ability to hear, analyze and synthesize stakeholder needs; diplomacy and persuasive skills)
    • Ability to analyze market segments and develop strategies for broadening/deepening membership/clients/customers
    • Team-orientation, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
    • Results-oriented, with high standards of performance
    • Ability to thrive at managing multiple projects at once

    Desired experience:

    • Experience designing and executing recruitment/marketing campaigns. Digital marketing experience is a plus
    • Experience in supporting the development of product/service offerings in a membership organization (or in ways that are transferable to a membership organization)
    • Experience conducting due diligence and Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, including financial, operational, and legal assessments, to identify risks and opportunities

    This position will be based in our New York City office with significant remote work flexibility offered through the GIIN’s hybrid in-person/remote work model. Candidates must possess valid authorization to work in the United States that does not require employment visa sponsorship.

    The GIIN is committed to pay equity. The salary range for this role is between

    $81,800-$105,000 plus up to $10K in bonus compensation, with exact salary depending on experience, with an excellent benefits package.
