About Organizing Resilience

Organizing Resilience (OR) is a strategy hub for organizers, policy experts, funders, and government folks from across the country who organize through climate shocks to build more powerful organizations, increase the effectiveness of direct relief efforts, shift narratives about climate disasters, and build capacity for policy campaigns that win meaningful victories for communities most affected by disasters. Started in 2021 OR is an incubator for game-changing ideas that respond to the urgent climate moment, led by working people and communities of color around the country. Climate disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and extreme heat are key moments for OR’s work, where power structures break open and can be renegotiated.OR is a fiscally sponsored project of the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation.

About the Role

Organizing Resilience seeks a Manager, Giving Strategies to join its small but mighty and growing team to lead fundraising and donor engagement. The Manager, Giving Strategies will work to advance Organizing Resilience’s mission to build power in the face of climate disasters. Serving in both internal and external facing capacities, this individual should excel at moving work from idea to action, toggling between the execution of big-picture strategy and extreme attention to detail. The ideal Manager, Giving Strategies is a strategic thinker and strong project manager, with a proactive approach to rolling up their sleeves to strengthen our capacity to deliver on our ambition.Fundraising is core to the success of Organizing Resilience. OR advances traditional and nontraditional fundraising strategies—spanning the spectrum from small-dollar donations to large-scale institutional philanthropic grants—to raise and move resources to support organizers in disaster-prone regions. OR approaches funders as key stakeholders. We are excited to bring someone onto our team who brings creative ideas and a desire to innovate and develop new models and ways of working.

Responsibilities

Fundraising and Development:

• Execute, manage, and track Organizing Resilience’s fundraising strategy.
• In conjunction with and under the direction of OR leadership, deploy key talent and team members to cultivate and manage funder relationships.
• Oversee and document fundraising operational processes, including prospecting, budgeting, tracking reporting requirements, and navigating relationship management across funding streams.
• Develop and maintain processes and procedures to ensure fundraising workflow is clear and consistent.
• Develop and manage the core fundraising and development tracking systems for all funding streams.
• Work closely with OR leadership to ensure effective prospective and current donor outreach and follow-up including, coordinating acknowledgment process, informal communication and acknowledgment letters.
• Provide input into and feedback on fundraising strategy and prospects.
• Prepare and manage all proposals and fundraising materials.
• In conjunction with the Amalgamated Foundation, draft and submit relevant program and financial reports.
• Responsible for stewarding relationships with donors throughout grant proposals and reporting processes.
• Manage Development Team manual documenting team processes and staff fundraising resources
• Coordinate high-dollar donor appreciation and cultivation projects such as mailings and events, including working with vendors
• Ensure the success of internal and external meetings, including scheduling, creating preparation materials, taking notes, and summarizing and communicating out takeaways and next steps
• Engage in research projects using internal and external data sources on current and potential supporters.
• Manage a portfolio of mid-sized individual donors.
• Write copy and proofread for donor newsletter and other engagement materials.
• Other tasks to assist the development team and staff fundraising managers

Data Management

• In conjunction with OR staff and the Amalgamated Foundation, oversee monthly revenue reconciliation, including:
  • Comparing individual fundraising database to source data spreadsheets to ensure accuracy of check, wire, and securities income;
  • Ensuring high dollar revenue is accurately attributed to staff point of contact; and
  • Resolving discrepancies or issues with finance, hosted projects, and fundraising staff.
• Maintain the Development Team’s supporter and newsletter contact lists, pledges, and planned asks.
• Regularly prepare reports on income progress, contact engagement, and actions taken by staff with contacts.

Grants Management

• In conjunction with the Amalgamated Foundation, coordinate the Organizing Resilience grants process, including assembling grant proposals, assigning reporting deadlines to appropriate staff, and proposal submission.
• Manage external grant management relationships and troubleshoot portal, application, report, and compliance issues.
• In conjunction with the Amalgamated Foundation, project Manage proposal and report submission process, including managing national application portals and preparing and submitting required materials in a timely manner.
• Ensure grant income and institutional contact information is tracked accurately in the database.
• Write copy for and proofread grantmaker-facing written materials
• Manage a portfolio of grants and engage development and program staff as appropriate to ensure the success of the funding relationships.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• 5 - 7 years of direct fundraising experience with additional grants management experience strongly preferred.
• Technology Comfort: Technical fluency in utilizing spreadsheets, databases, and new and different online portals with high attention to detail.
• Development Interest: A genuine interest in identifying, cultivating, and acknowledging high-capacity funders and individual donors.
• Dependable & Detail Oriented: Self-directed and demonstrated ability to manage their own work independently. Strong project management skills, including preparation, planning, and follow up.
• Creative Problem Solver: Problem-solving skills and ability to navigate through multiple staff teams to reach a resolution.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• An understanding of how to perform fundraising research using public and internal sources of information
• Experience managing grant applications and report.
• Experience working with major donors.

Salary & Benefits

The salary for this non-exempt position is $80,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience. This position is a remote, U.S. based role. The role will require up to 20% domestic travel, as needed.
