Position Summary: The Communications Coordinator works to further 350 Colorado’s organizational mission and goals through effective messaging and promotion of campaigns and opportunities via a robust online presence and increased media coverage. The communications coordinator will work with other 350 Colorado staff to ensure that necessary information to educate the public and inspire action are readily accessible. The position will serve to assist in the recruitment of new members and their engagement in campaigns and education of the public.

Amount of Time and Status: Part-time, contractor status if under 30 hours, or can be full-time employee status if working 30-40 hours per week

Areas of Responsibility
Essential Responsibilities Include:
- Create and executive an effective annual Communications Plan, including press and digital marketing strategy components to recruit new members, promote campaigns and increase visibility of organization
- Build a robust online presence for 350CO: Develop, review, and produce content for 350 Colorado’s digital marketing strategy including emails, monthly online newsletter curation and delivery, social media, website, digital advertisements & other promotional collateral
- Produce graphic design materials for social media, emails, website & printed materials and provide consultation on written materials for other staff, as needed
- Maximize media coverage of 350CO’s work: Develop and consult on press materials including press releases, media advisories & talking points, as well as, assist in developing relationships with press & pitching stories to generate press hits/coverage of campaigns, actions, events and developments
- Lead relevant committee meetings for communications work, such as the Newsletter Committee, and participate in other relevant meetings as needed
- Promote volunteer/campaign opportunities for involvement to members, working with our volunteer coordinator on strategies to increase membership and volunteer engagement, including a robust LTE/op-ed campaign and Social Media Engagement Team activities
- Work directly with other staff and volunteers on strategies to promote campaign successes and volunteer opportunities and consult on campaign messaging and media outreach
- Help to develop content to educate Coloradans about the climate crisis and more specifically on issues in relation to our current campaigns and to inspire action
- Oversee production and volunteer management of website content, ensure all pages are up to date with relevant information and content
- Update our social media Linktree as needed, ensuring our following can easily engage with action items
- Build 350 Colorado’s online presence through management of Google Adwords and other means to optimize our online presence
- Develop and deliver mobile texting campaigns as needed
- Collaborate with executive director on organizational development, strategic planning and participate in other meetings and efforts as needed
- Participate in 350 Network Council communications committee
- Other tasks relevant to this position as requested by the Executive Director and other staff
The Ideal Candidate Must Have:
- An understanding of and passion for 350 Colorado’s mission and goals
- 2+ years of experience in communications, public relations or marketing
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work well with volunteers and collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including partners and news media
- Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills, with knowledge and practice of AP Style editing
- Proficiency in developing press materials (press releases & media advisories)
- Strong social media proficiency (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
- Graphic design proficiency (Canva preferred for easy collaboration, Affinity, Adobe, others also ok)
- Excellent verbal and written communication and follow-through skills
- Self-motivation, ability to work with little direct supervision, excellent follow-through, and timely to meet deadlines with ease
- Well organized in tracking media hits and social media and website engagement
- Proficiency in gmail, Google® Docs and Calendars, Microsoft Office and ideally some database experience (i.e. CRMs, wordpress, Action Network) and/or a willingness to learn
- Candidates should have a strong understanding of 350 Colorado’s JEDI Principles, of the role that inequity plays in our society and in movement-building, and an ability to effectively manage across differences in order to promote 350CO’s JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) goals and The Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing
Additional desired qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
- Ideally 1-2 years of group facilitation and/or volunteer management experience
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to attend actions and events as needed
