    About SACRED

    Based in Chicago, SACRED is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan, independent organization working to overcome hate in the South Asian American community. SACRED unites progressive members of the South Asian American community to dismantle the enduring alliance between white supremacist and South Asian supremacist actors that advance authoritarianism and the myth of racial and caste superiority in the U.S.

    Position announcement

    SACRED (South Asian American Coalition to Renew Democracy) is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Program Coordinator.

    SACRED is searching for an enthusiastic, dynamic individual who is passionate about building our multifaith, multiracial democracy. The ideal team member has a strong work ethic; ability to work autonomously and collaboratively; is highly organized; has a proven track record of working effectively with diverse populations; and has excellent oral and written communication skills. This position will provide logistical and administrative support for the implementation of SACRED’s public education, research, and organizing programs.

    Responsibilities may include (but may not be limited to):

    • Support the Executive Director, Board Members, and/or other team members in delivering on SACRED’s programs, including planning and carrying out SACRED’s in-person events.
    • Organize and schedule meetings; provide support to SACRED by taking meeting minutes, coordinating work with partners, and preparing necessary documents on behalf of SACRED.
    • Help prepare budgets and maintain accounting documents.
    • Oversee procurement and management of office/supplies.
    • Track SACRED’s metrics and outcomes as well as maintain and update records for grants, programs and initiatives.
    • Support SACRED’s grant writing process and grant applications, contributing to the development of proposals that secure funding for new and ongoing initiatives.
    • Organize and support educational workshops and other outreach for community’s served by SACRED.
    • Collaborate with team members to evaluate and analyze the results of campaigns, programs, and events, following up to make improvements.
    • Research opportunities that would lead to growth and attendance at SACRED events and programs.
    • Undertake other duties in support of SACRED’s work.

    Required qualifications and skills:

    • Previous experience managing and backstopping large in-person events and online events (e.g., Zoom).
    • Problem solving skills, efficient, organized, and detail oriented.
    • Ability to work independently and on multiple streams of work simultaneously, including at times in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
    • Commitment to developing a collaborative work environment, constructive workplace culture, and team-centered approach.
    • Mission and value alignment with SACRED’s work.
    • Ability to engage constructively in discussions about organizational goals, performance, metrics, and deadlines.

    Preferred qualifications and skills:

    • One or more years of experience coordinating program work for a social sector organization.
    • Experience establishing project management systems (e.g., Slack, AirTable, Asana, Trello, G-Suites) for a social sector organization.
    • Experience creating and developing spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.
    • Experience carrying out basic accounting for a social sector organization.
    • Experience working in QuickBooks.
    • Experience leveraging information from a variety of sources to help uncover new strategies, inform your decisions and communicate results.
    • Experience working on website development and maintenance.

    Location and other details

    Geographic requirement: candidates living in Chicago, Illinois or the Chicagoland area will be considered for this position. While much of the work will take place remotely, team meetings will take place regularly (weekly, biweekly, and sometimes more frequently) in SACRED’s Chicago, West Loop office. The individual hired will likely be asked to attend in-person events for and/or on behalf of SACRED from time-to-time in and around the Chicagoland area.

    SACRED is a growing organization. While this is a part-time position, paid at an hourly rate, with a maximum of 10 hours per week, SACRED is actively seeking to increase hours and responsibility for this role.

    A successful candidate will be hired on a provisional three to four-month period with the possibility of an extension based on performance and funding availability.
