Work location: New York City; the position is currently hybrid with regular in-person meetings and events.
Compensation: Sane Energy is a project of Multiplier, which provides a comprehensive compensation package, including a competitive salary ($60,000-$68,000), excellent medical and dental benefits, a retirement savings plan, and a generous vacation and sick leave policy.
Sane Energy Project is a New York City-based climate activist organization dedicated to replacing fracked gas infrastructure with 100% democratically controlled, renewable energy in New York State. Since its founding in 2011, Sane Energy has grown into a leading nonprofit organization fighting toxic fossil fuel infrastructure and pushing for a rapid and just transition to renewable energy. We are a small but influential group, with a large and engaged constituency. We conduct all of our campaigns through a lens of social, racial, and economic justice, and building healthy, respectful relationships both internally and in the communities we work with is a core value.
The community organizer will report to Sane Energy’s director, Kim Fraczek, who will serve as a campaign advisor.
Job Overview
The full-time Community Organizer mobilizes individuals, allied groups, and others in North Brooklyn and beyond to actively join Sane Energy’s campaign to retire the gas system in New York State. Sane Energy Project’s current focus is on shutting down National Grid’s LNG facility housed within the Greenpoint Energy Center in Brooklyn. While our work to move New York off gas is currently centered in North Brooklyn, the community organizer may be called upon to work on other Sane Energy campaigns and to engage individuals in other neighborhoods within New York City and other cities and towns in New York State.

As an ideal candidate, you have a strong community organizing background around energy, environmental justice, or climate issues. You have a deep understanding of the communities you work with and a talent for cultivating relationships, growing multiracial networks, and developing local leaders.
Your excellent communication skills, both in-person and online, enable you to engage effectively with diverse groups and share your knowledge and expertise with ease. You are an energetic leader, adept at coordinating events and mobilizing individuals to take part in them.
You motivate people to overcome obstacles and fight for positive change. With at least three to five years of community organizing experience, you are familiar with data management and communications platforms (e.g., Action Network). As a bonus, you are fluent in Spanish.
