    Who You Are

    In a growth phase, ASJ is working to quickly diversify revenue streams and strengthen relationships with existing donors. The Grants Associate is a key member of ASJ’s development team who will provide broad support across ASJ’s grants portfolio. A successful Associate will bring creativity, excellent communication skills, and a can-do attitude to our growing team. The Associate, reporting to the Sr. Grants Manager, will be responsible for providing wrap-around administration support to the grants program along with a wide array of fund development activities, including database management, donor research, grant reporting and writing, metric tracking, and donor stewardship. This experienced development professional will have the unique opportunity to strengthen ASJ’s community of supporters and contribute to the growth and sustainability of our organization during a critical growth phase.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Grant Writing and Portfolio Management (70%)

    • Manage portfolio of grants <$500,000. Ensure effective donor stewardship, timely submission of reports and renewals and all associated materials, and monitor giving priorities across the full grants portfolio.
    • Prospect research and pipeline development.
    • Coordinate funder and prospect meetings, including scheduling, donor briefs, prepping materials and follow-up support.
    • Draft and copy-edit PowerPoints, concept papers and other documents as needed.

    Support & Administration (30%)

    • Process incoming grants, including updating donor records in CRM and preparing acknowledgment letters and other correspondence.
    • Create monthly fundraising reports and dashboards as needed to support gift coding and regular reconciliation with finance.
    • Maintain donor mailing lists and ensure proper segmentation.
    • In coordination with the Sr. Grants Manager, manage annual grants calendar, including ensuring all reporting deadlines are effectively tracked and key stakeholders (e.g., the finance team) are fully informed of due dates and deliverables.
    • Track qualitative and quantitative information relevant to grant reports (e.g. policy wins by state and research, publications and media highlights).
    • Manage the schedule for routine program staff check-ins in partnership with Grants Manager.
    • Seek in-kind contributions, event donations, and sponsorships.
    • Acquire and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of the organization, its mission, values, strategic goals, and programs to develop persuasive donor materials and proposals.

    Experience & Qualifications

    • 3-5 years' experience in fundraising/development for non-profit charitable organizations, with a track record of success. Experience with an advocacy organization and/or c4 fundraising a plus.
    • Excellent writing communication and grant writing abilities.
    • Knowledge and experience working with donor database management systems and strong fidelity to systems. Preference for experience with EveryAction.
    • Excellent oral communication skills and comfort with occasionally facilitating internal and external meetings.
    • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising strategies and tactics.
    • Possess a strong business acumen, as well as analytical and organizational skills
    • Must be a self-starter and goal-driven individual capable of initiating and executing an array of fundraising efforts.
    • Well-organized and detail-oriented.
    • Display a positive and empathetic attitude.
    • Demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, listening skills.

    Working Conditions & Physical Demands

    • Some travel may be required
    • Requires use of a desktop, laptop, or video display terminal
    • Requires routine physical movements with limited physical exertion
    • Ability to communicate, receive and understand information through oral and written communication and proofread and check documents for accuracy
    • Requires communicating information with co-workers, stakeholders and/or the public; reading correspondence, instructions and/or technical documents; writing correspondence and/or reports and filling in forms

    Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $75,000, and will be offered commensurate with experience.
