    Position Title: Manager, Finance and Operations

    Reports to: Senior Managing Director of Operations and Programs

    Location: Washington, DC. Note: This is a hybrid role with an expectation to be on-site at least two (2) days a week.

    Position Summary

    The Finance and Operations Manager at DC Ed Fund will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial health and operational effectiveness of the organization. This role demands an individual with a strong attention to detail and a passion for managing and improving systems to drive organizational growth. The Finance and Operations Manager will work closely with the Managing Director to ensure smooth operations across multiple grant programs, refine financial processes, and ensure compliance with all policies. The role also includes responsibilities in financial management, program oversight, and continuous process improvement. The Finance and Operations Manager will work closely with staff across DC Public Schools (DCPS) departments, fostering a team-oriented environment where input from multiple perspectives is valued to achieve organizational goals. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working on diverse, impactful initiatives that require coordination and integration across different functional areas.

    Core Role & Responsibilities

    1. Finance Support (60%)
    • Support the financial management of the organization, including monitoring program budgets, preparing quarterly board financials, reviewing financial reports, and creating budgets for new grant programs.
    • Manage and track program spending, ensuring alignment with financial goals, and regularly audit program accounts with Program Coordinators.
    • Lead quarterly program financial deep dives and monthly audits with the Program Coordinators.
    • Oversee disbursement and payment monitoring, ensuring that financial transactions are timely and accurate.
    • Collaborate with Ed Fund’s accountant to successful complete the month-end close out in a timely manner.
    • Support the development and management of the organization’s operational budget, working closely with the Managing Director.
    • Lead the annual audit process.
    • Support Managing Director with vendor contract review and execution.
    1. Program Management (10%)
    • Assist in refining goals, objectives, and success metrics for grant-funded initiatives, including any financial troubleshooting.
    • Provide procurement support for the team, as needed.
    • Manage a small portfolio of high-level grant-funded programs.
    1. Operations and Systems Management (20%)
    • Manage key internal systems related to grants, payments, and reporting deadlines, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all processes.
    • Collaborate with the Managing Director and team members to streamline internal procedures and implement more effective systems.
    • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of existing systems and recommend improvements for continuous growth.
    1. Special Projects (10%)
    • Lead and support internal projects that contribute to the organization’s strategic plan, goals updates, and fundraising strategies.
    • Play an active role in cross-functional projects, collaborating with teams to improve overall operations and outcomes.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
    • Approximately 3-4 years of professional experience in operations, financial management, or program oversight.
    • Experience managing multiple projects and budgets, preferably over $250K.
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proven ability to manage and lead projects independently while collaborating effectively with others.
    • High level of responsibility, initiative, and motivation with a strong attention to detail.

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • Experience in nonprofit financial management, especially within an educational or philanthropic context.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.

    Salary and Benefits

    • The starting base salary range anticipated for this position is $75,000 to $90,000, with the potential for an annual performance-based bonus.
