    Family Promise is seeking a Director of Housing. The person in this newly created position will be responsible for increasing affordable housing units throughout our national network. The Director of Housing will provide in-depth support, expertise, and technical assistance regarding Family Promise’s core program of housing. This role focuses on scaling the organization’s housing portfolio, including both housing programming and developing units. Focus areas will include master leasing, shared housing, manufactured housing, and converting underutilized properties into housing.

    The Director of Housing's contribution to the organization's success:

    The person in this position will create and lead a two-pronged housing strategy designed to develop new affordable housing units, and make housing more affordable by increasing access to existing housing stock.

    Create new affordable housing units:

    • Analyze Family Promise locations and partnerships that have underutilized buildings and land that can be repurposed into affordable housing .
    • Create a strategy that includes the needed capacity (funding, partnerships, staff) to create new affordable housing in line with our five-year growth plan.
    • Oversee Partners in Housing and launch/expand new PIH sites.
    • Develop program project plans with clear timelines and deliverables.
    • Provide training and support to Family Promise locations pursuing affordable housing opportunities.
    • Cultivate partnerships with developers and key stakeholders as necessary.

    Make housing affordable by increasing access to existing units and creating housing programs:

    • Housing programs include master leasing, risk pool funding, transition in place
    • Create program content to assist with implementing affordable housing; this may include in-person
    • Conduct trainings, webinars, online curriculum, and toolkits

    The ideal candidate will have the following experience and abilities:

    • Commitment to preventing and ending family homelessness
    • Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience in areas such as affordable housing development, real estate, working with planning and zoning departments, home construction, or housing programming
    • Experience with federal funds, laws, operations, rezoning, LIHTC projects
    • Strong interpersonal, decision-making, and leadership skills
    • Ability to manage competing priorities
    • Project management skills including the oversight of budgets, timelines, and outcomes
    • Ability to create and implement a strategy while tracking outcomes and changing course if necessary
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders inside and outside of the organization
    • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience

    Competitive compensation:

    • Starting salary range begins at $90K

    About this role:

    • The position may be partially on-site in Summit, NJ, or fully remote. Some travel (20%) may be required to provide training and support. The position may require working occasional evenings and/or weekends.
