NC Counts Coalition is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to building a healthy, just, and equitable North Carolina through cross-sector partnerships that advance systemic solutions for communities facing systemic barriers, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, low-wealth, immigrant, and other communities.
ROLE OVERVIEW
NC Counts Coalition seeks a full-time Regional Coordinator to provide strategic support to community-based organizations (CBOs) and advance equity-driven initiatives across North Carolina. This role requires adaptability, an entrepreneurial spirit centered on equity, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a rapidly evolving organization, NC Counts operates in a dynamic landscape where priorities and success metrics may shift based on emerging challenges, community needs, and funding opportunities.
The Regional Coordinator will provide regional support in Western North Carolina and the rest of the state as needed. Travel within the state up to 40% is required. The candidate should be prepared to be flexible with their schedule, as we occasionally work evenings and weekends to support community outreach events and other program activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the leadership and direction of a Regional Director, the Regional Coordinator will provide:
Capacity Building & Technical Assistance
a. Coordinate with the regional team to organize training, actions, and mobilization efforts that engage members, partners, and community leaders in NC Counts campaigns, including census, redistricting, digital equity, and health equity.
b. Support CBO grantees in implementing culturally responsive outreach strategies related to census, redistricting, digital equity, and health equity through forums, workshops, and direct engagement.
c. Work with NC Counts members, grantees, and partners to identify systemic challenges, research community issues, and develop solutions that address root causes.
d. Engage, educate, and mobilize NC Counts’ diverse network of partners, stakeholders, and community leaders on equity-related initiatives
Community Engagement & Advocacy
a. Engage directly with community members impacted by systemic inequities to understand their concerns and incorporate their feedback into regional outreach strategies.
b. Support the Regional Director to mobilize marginalized communities—including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, low-income, and immigrant populations—to take collective action and advocate for policy changes that promote health, justice, and equity.
c. Staff community outreach and engagement events organized by CBOs as appropriate
d. Support statewide community outreach efforts by conducting direct engagement activities to expand NC Counts’ impact.
Grant Support & Administration
a. Develop and maintain strong relationships with grantees, coalition members, and stakeholders to support the grantmaking process.
b. Assist in regranting efforts to community partners and ensure that funding is used effectively to meet community needs.
c. Track and support grantee deliverables, including engagement metrics and the impact of their work on equitable access to hurricane relief services.
Internal Administration & Organizational Support
a. Participate in statewide and regional team meetings, trainings, and planning sessions.
b. Document and share lessons learned to improve regional outreach strategies and inform future initiatives.
c. Contribute to NC Counts’ grant and contract reporting requirements by tracking key deliverables and outcomes.
d. Support rapid response efforts during urgent situations affecting NC Counts’ mission and partner communities.
e. Stay informed on best practices in community organizing, equity, and capacity building.
f. Work collaboratively with NC Counts staff to plan and implement statewide and regional convenings, meetings, and trainings.
