    Position: Grants Accountant

    Reports to: Director of Grants Management

    Position Overview:

    Primary functions include reviewing and approving Community Based Organizations (CBO) budgets, budget modifications and expenditure reports. Responsible for verifying budget balances, ensuring receipt of substantiating supporting documentation and research for any discrepancies. Participate and conduct fiscal training, monitoring to ensure compliance with the agencies’ accounting policies and procedures in addition to United Way of New York City fiscal policy & procedure; federal Circular A-122 and A-133 as required.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Maintain effective and efficient books and records and provide accurate and meaningful communication to the Director of Grants Management.
    • Responsible for the preparation, generation, and maintenance of all financial reports and voucher submissions.
    • Must be extensively familiar with Federal, State, City and Foundation contracts and grants.
    • Work closely with teammates to ensure completion and accuracy of all grant and contract accounting.
    • Prepare budgets and budget modifications to maximize reimbursement on all grants and contracts.
    • Reconcile budget to actual expense activity for all grants and contracts.
    • Prepare financial reports and invoices for grants and contracts assigned to ensure timely and accurate submission to government funders.
    • Adhere to grant guidelines and ensure GAAP compliance with all grants and contracts.
    • Coordinates for monthly closing and assists with year-end closing such as preparing monthly accruals and recording of adjusting journal entries.
    • Prepare correspondence and interact with outside entities as needed.
    • Analyze revenue and expenses and prepare justification of variances.
    • Analyze A/R aging reports providing recommendations for timely receivables and reimbursements.
    • Review invoices and coding for assigned contracts to ensure proper classification.
    • Prepare close-out packages in accordance with the date and methodology established for each funding source.
    • Prepare and provide reports as required and assist in other financial projects as needed.

    Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and at least three years of experience performing budgetary, administrative, and operational support work.
    • Previous experience in and/or demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit finance accounting.
    • Experience with Government Contracts.
    • Superior data management and analytics skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Superior financial and business acumen.
    • Budgeting and budget modification experience.
    • Able to prepare billing/expenditure reports, as well as variance reports.
    • Able to develop and maintain relationships with multiple internal and external parties.
    • Proven record of effective project management, ability to work independently and take initiative, manage multiple projects, and meet aggressive deadlines.
    • Highly motivated, self-directed team player.
    • Proficiency with a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and Great Plains.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail.

    Salary range:

    • $53,321 – $72,716*
      1. The final determination of salary, within this range, will depend on the candidate’s education, skills and experience required for the particular position.

    Additional Requirement:

    • Successful completion of a Background check
    • UWNYC is presently on a Hybrid/In-Person work schedule
