    About the Senior Director, Youth & Adult Education Role:

    The Senior Director, Youth & Adult Education oversees BRIC’s adult and youth education and media programs including strategic planning, curriculum, scheduling, and instruction to pursue BRIC’s mission of making media and arts education accessible to the community.

    What You’ll Do in the Role:

    The Senior Director Youth & Adult Education will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project as assigned by their manager, the Chief Program Officer

    Team Management & Leadership

    • Supervise a team of 4 full-time BRIC staff, and indirectly oversee part-time Teaching Artists and Media Education Staff at BRIC House, Brooklyn Public Libraries and partner sites.
    • Establish and cultivate partner relationships with schools, community partners and funders to manage institutional relationships.
    • Establish a connection between youth and adult learning.
    • Oversee departmental and programmatic budgets by ensuring revenue and expense targets are met through regular tracking of expenses.
    • Supervise planning and production for special programs, including Youth Media Festival, Annual Student Exhibition, Youth Curatorial Fellowship and public programs for youth.
    • Serve as lead producer for public educational events, such as screenings, artist talks, and panel discussions.
    • Develop a pedagogical framework and oversee program assessments and evaluations.
    • Represent BRIC in public forums and the larger education community.
    • Work with marketing staff to increase visibility for education programs.

    Youth Education & Family Programs

    • Oversee curation and production of family programs, including House Parties and Family Workshops.
    • Negotiate residency contracts to meet school and partner goals and align with BRIC’s mission and strategic priorities.
    • Develop partnerships and educational programs in conjunction with colleges and certified training programs as well as non-profit organizations and other stakeholders from the Brooklyn community.
    • Guide the curriculum and content development for youth and family programs.
    • Administer evaluations for training workshops and track data to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and instructors.

    Adult Media Education

    • Oversee all of BRIC’s on and offsite Media Education programming initiatives, including strategic planning, curriculum development, and department goals and operations.
    • Grow and refine course offerings in response to demand, class evaluations and strategic planning.
    • Work with operations and engineering staff at the Community Media Center to ensure classroom logistics, and help them serve as more effective mentors and teachers for community members.
    • Oversee scheduling for Media Education classes at BRIC House, Brooklyn Public Libraries and other partner sites and programs.
    • Develop course offerings for special and at-risk populations, including people with criminal justice system involvement.
    • Prepare ongoing class enrollment and attendance statistics
    • Oversee phone & email inquiries regarding media education.
    • Organize and oversee orientation sessions for interested community members.
    • Directs curriculum development for media classes.
    • Work with Tech and Producer-support to align purchase decisions with training.
    • Collaborate with the development team for the following purposes: prepare fundraising proposals and funder reports, research and identify funding streams for media adult education.

    • Experience & Qualifications:
      • Undergraduate degree in Education, Media Studies, or related field of study. Post-Graduate degree preferred.
      • Minimum 7 years’ experience between a combination of teaching basic media skills, advanced filmmaking, field capture and/or studio production.
      • Experience developing new curriculum to meet changing community needs and take advantage of partnership opportunities.
      • Strong knowledge of NYC public schools and the art education landscape.
      • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a managerial role with a strong commitment to developing staff
      • Strong project-management skills, from concept to planning to implementation.
      • Must have demonstrated cross-platform proficiency in consumer and professional edit programs, graphics programs, video and audio recording equipment.
      • Demonstrated understanding of racial justice and the ability to engage with individuals from historically underrepresented communities.
      • Proficiency with office software applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Forms, Meet).
      • Strong interpersonal communication, in addition to exceptional written and oral communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
      • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, promoting mutual accountability and inspiring trust from internal and external stakeholders.
      • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Communication: An emotionally intelligent, values, and results-driven team player who can collaborate across departments and at all levels of the organization. An excellent communicator who prioritizes customer service.
