    Who we are looking for:

    If you have a passion for shaping health policy in the field of cancer research, we have the perfect opportunity for you! ASCO is seeking a passionate and high-performing Senior Health Policy Specialist for Cancer Research.

    As the Senior Health Policy Specialist, you will have the opportunity to provide expertise to ASCO leadership, committees, and staff on health policy issues related to cancer research, including clinical trials, pharmaceutical development, and other critical research topics.

    This position is hybrid with a primary location in Alexandria, VA.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify emerging policy issues and oversee the development of policy positions and recommendations related to clinical research studies and drug development.
    • Convene and lead work groups of staff and members to develop, update, and review organizational policies related to portfolio.
    • Provide health policy content expertise and serve as a resource for ASCO’s legislative and regulatory activities, with a focus on clinical research and pharmaceutical development policy and relevant federal agencies including but not limited to NIH, NCI and FDA.
    • Collaborate with Advocacy staff in analyzing legislation, proposed regulations and other emerging proposals; assist in the preparation of written comments for submission to Congress and federal agencies; and assist in analysis and drafting of comments on state-specific issues.
    • Provide technical support in response to state-level initiatives.
    • Develop and maintain working relationships and collaborate with relevant health policy and oncology organizations.
    • Partner in the evaluation and impact analysis of statutory, regulatory, and other public policy initiatives affecting cancer care delivery and research.

    Required Education and Experience

    • Master’s Degree (MBA, MPH, MPP) or higher
    • 5+ years of experience in similar society work, think tank or government agency work
    • Experience or a high level of familiarity with the federal government drug review and approval processes
    • Experience with clinical trial protocols, IRBs, and human subject research generally

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Experience working with oncology drug development or cancer clinical trials
    • Experience representing an employer with external stakeholders

    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to quickly adapt as circumstances dictate
    • Requires a high degree of professional maturity and comfort working with senior members and staff
    • The ability to coordinate successfully with staff and members across multiple departments
    • Goal-oriented and self-managed with the ability to multi-task and manage own time, priorities, and resources
    • Commitment to high-quality work within a team to meet timelines and deliverables

    Work Environment

    Office or work-from-home

    Routine use of computer required

    ADA/Physical Requirements

    Extended periods seated or standing at a desk.

    High use of computer and other office technology equipment.

    Travel

    11-20 days/yr
