Summary/Objective
The Controller will lead and manage the accounting department, overseeing key functions including staff performance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, audit, and subrecipient management. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining robust financial controls to ensure accuracy and compliance. With a strong focus on operational excellence, the Controller will play a pivotal part in the organization's financial integrity.

- As a supervisor this role manages the performance of the accounting staff to ensure goals are met and productivity thrives.
- Oversees all aspects of full cycle accounting, including but not limited to accounts receivable and payable, payroll, general ledger management, transaction entries, month-end closing, bank reconciliation, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Ownership of complex allocation spreadsheets prepared in excel and imported into the General Leger system.
- Directs the financial components of subrecipient management, including monitoring processes.
- Lead the annual single audit (A-133) and state compliance monitoring processes, ensuring the accounting practices comply with relevant regulations.
- Ensure appropriate COSO internal controls are in place for financial reports and systems, provides internal control consulting to other departments.
- Oversees development and filing of annual 1099 and W2 tax forms and quarterly payroll tax filings.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and systems that ensure compliance with GAAP, US Government Grant Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and other applicable grant/funder regulations.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent field required.
- CPA, CMA or MBA designation strongly preferred.
- Must have 4+ years of recent supervisory/managerial experience.
- Must have 5+ years of complex accounting experience, with a strong understanding of financial reporting, analysis, and compliance.
- At least 2 years of non-profit 501(C)(3) and/or federal fund accounting experience highly preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Must have proven record of strong critical thinking and exceptional financial aptitude.
- Expert in understanding and directing full-cycle accounting functions.
- Proficient in US government Grant Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), US Government Grant Cost Principles (2 CFR 200 Subpart E) and grant fund accounting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with hands-on experience in effectively managing grants and overseeing financial operations within the nonprofit sector. This includes working knowledge of grant management processes, budgeting, financial analysis and interpretation, financial reporting for a diversity of government and private funders, and relevant regulations and requirements to meet government reporting requirements for grant financial activities.
- Experience with the Single Audit process for federally funded awards.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and developing a team of financial professionals by building productive relationships, providing constructive feedback and recognizing team achievements.
- Strong leadership skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships across all management levels, internally and externally, and to analyze, present, and communicate complex financial information easily.

- Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and accounting software tools (Abila MIP Fund Accounting software, SAP Concur, Paycom, or other complex accounting software and other company technologies).
- Experience with the Single Audit process for federally funded awards.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Hires and trains new employees; provides ongoing training for existing staff.
- Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of assigned staff.
- Mentors and develops employees; oversees training and development plans.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and objective.
- Handles discipline and recommends termination of employees as needed in accordance with company policy.
Work Environment
Work is typically performed sitting at a computer desk. Workdays and hours are subject to need and availability to ensure operational coverage throughout the work week. However, daily demands may require occasional early arrivals, late departures, extended hours, as well as weekend or holiday work.
