    Overview

    Invisible People (IP) is an innovative story-telling organization that connects people to the face of homelessness in a direct and meaningful way. Since 2008, we have been a pioneer in educating the public about homelessness. We reach over 200 million people every year, publishing innovative video stories and original daily journalism on multiple media channels. Through storytelling, education, news, and advocacy, we are changing the narrative on homelessness and influencing effective policy changes.

    We are seeking an experienced Grant Writer on a contract basis to help us secure at least $200K in 2025 through strategic grant applications and funding proposals. This role is ideal for a skilled writer with a strong track record in nonprofit fundraising, particularly in securing grants from foundations, corporate donors, and government agencies.

    We expect the grant writer to work around 5 hours per week, or 15-20 per month, and the hourly rate for this position starts at $75/hour.

    Responsibilities

    • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with Invisible People’s mission, one-year plan, and programs.
    • Develop compelling grant proposals, LOIs (Letters of Inquiry), and funding applications that effectively communicate our work and impact.
    • Manage a grant calendar to ensure timely submission of applications, renewals, and reports.
    • Collaborate with team members to gather necessary information, budgets, and impact metrics for proposals.
    • Track and report on grant application statuses, including follow-ups, funding decisions, and compliance requirements.
    • Maintain relationships with foundations and institutional funders, including stewardship and ongoing engagement.
    • Assist in developing strategies to diversify funding sources and increase overall grant revenue.

    Qualifications

    • Proven track record of securing at least $200K annually in grant funding
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in grant writing and fundraising for nonprofits.
    • Strong research skills to identify potential funders and align funding opportunities with organizational needs.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities, with the ability to translate complex data into compelling narratives.
    • Experience managing grant reporting, compliance, and funder relationships.
    • Knowledge of homelessness, social justice, or related fields is a plus.
    • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple applications simultaneously.
