    Founded in 1981 in partnership with whistleblowers, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that works to expose waste, corruption, abuse of power, and other instances where the government fails to serve the public. We champion reforms to achieve a more effective, ethical, and accountable federal government that safeguards constitutional principles. POGO has an over $7 million annual budget that supports a staff of over 50 employees.

    POGO is looking for a talented Editor to temporarily augment our editing and fact checking capabilities. The selected candidate will work closely with POGO staff to ensure that work published on our website is clear, well structured, nonpartisan, fair, and accurate. This position reports to the Editorial Director.

    We encourage potential applicants to apply even if they only have experience or familiarity in some of the areas described below. We fully recognize that many great candidates will not have experience in all of the areas we list, or may have relevant experiences and skills that we have not listed or considered.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Assist as needed in editing content ranging from emails to investigations to analyses to congressional testimony to reports.
    • Partner with authors to ensure that complex ideas are presented in a way that is clear, accurate, and compelling.
    • Assist with fact checking as needed.
    • Assist with proofreading as needed.
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines.

    Qualifications include:

    • Two years experience in editing and fact checking, preferably of policy, investigative, or communications products.
    • Knowledge of AP style is a necessity; Chicago style is a plus.
    • Commitment to accuracy, nonpartisanship, and attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated commitment to working in a collaborative, respectful manner with diverse stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.
    • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
    • Commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.

    Compensation, benefits, and other information:

    This position is eligible for remote work from anywhere within the United States provided you are available during POGO’s work hours of 9AM-6PM EST.

    This is a temporary, full-time, at-will position with an expected duration of three months.

    Competitive nonprofit salary in the range of $ 30.00 - 35.00 an hour
