Senior Ethics Counsel

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) seeks an experienced Senior Ethics Counsel to join our legal team and help us secure our democracy and build a better Washington. Responsibilities:

• Draft ethics/legal complaints on ethics in all three branches of government;
• Consult with Congressional staff and consult on press inquiries about rules violations;
• Consult on a wide variety of CREW’s legal actions, including litigation, administrative complaints, and open records requests;
• Review financial disclosures and advise colleagues on the policy, research, communications, and legal teams on conflicts and compliance issues;
• Identify potential violations of law by government officials and entities, draft, oversee, and file administrative, criminal, Inspector General, and other legal complaints;
• Engage in legal and policy research and analysis;
• Work alongside policy, research, and ethics experts to develop and advocate for policies to advance CREW’s mission;
• This position will report to CREW’s Executive Director and Chief Counsel.

Qualifications:

• J.D. (required);
• A minimum of 8-15 years of legal experience (including clerkships and fellowships), specializing with government ethics laws (enforcement or policy);
• Familiarity with administrative law, constitutional law, federal civil service laws, FOIA, federal recordkeeping laws, FACA, campaign finance, or election law;
• Experience building and managing partner and client relationships;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgment, including the ability to work effectively with outside counsel;
• The position is based in Washington, D.C. but will be hybrid with employees splitting their time between working at home and working in the office.

The salary range for this position is $125,000-$175,000 based on experience and qualifications.
