    Grantmakers In Health (GIH) is looking for a dynamic Senior Program Director who enjoys delving into pressing health issues and designing programs that help the staff and trustees of foundations and corporate giving programs advance their missions and improve health outcomes for all.

    We are looking for someone with:

      • Substantive expertise and thought leadership in at least one of the following areas: health equity and social justice, access and quality, community engagement and empowerment, population health or health policy
      • Experience supervising and leading staff
      • Experience with philanthropy or philanthropy serving organizations
      • Experience developing public health programs in a nonprofit, government agency, or foundation environment
      • Experience in policy research, data analysis, and advocacy at the state or federal level
      • Experience in offering strategic guidance, building partnerships, and forming networks
      • Excellent verbal and written communications and facilitation skills
      • A graduate degree and at least five years of work experience in a health-related field (or a bachelor's degree and at least seven years of work experience in a health-related field).

Our mission is to foster communication and collaboration among grantmakers and others, and to help strengthen the grantmaking community's knowledge, skills, and effectiveness.

    The Senior Program Director will:

    • Lead and coordinate a team responsible for programming in at least one of GIH priority areas
    • Develop a portfolio of programs for staff and trustees of foundations and corporate giving programs, including webinars, in-person meetings, learning communities, and sessions within GIH’s conferences
    • Design and write fundraising proposals and liaise with GIH funders
    • Research and write about public health issues for grantmaking and other philanthropic audiences. Develop surveys, write reports, and design infographics that track trends in the field of health philanthropy
    • Build effective relationships with grantmakers and provide strategic advice in response to their requests for assistance on programmatic and operational issues
    • Represent GIH at external functions by effectively communicating about GIH, highlighting the work of health philanthropy, giving presentations, and collaborating with grantmakers and other organizations.

      • Paid vacation, personal, and sick leave at the beginning of each year to encourage work life balance and a generous benefits package

      • Hybrid work environment: This position is based at GIH’s office in Washington, DC. Employees are expected to be in the office three days per week, with Tuesdays being required for all staff.
