    Description

    The Safe Horizon DV Shelter Program provides safe and confidential spaces for DV survivors and their

    children. We are committed to providing these services with empathy, compassion, professionalism, non-judgement, and respect. Our spaces respect survivors’ rights to self-determination and focus on giving families and individuals the space, both emotional and physical, to heal from the victimization and trauma they have experienced.

    Essential Job Functions: An Economic Empowerment Specialist (EES) will help build financial independence for survivors of domestic violence and other crimes through financial literacy workshops, individual and group case management meetings and linkages with various workforce development organizations.

    The Economic Empowerment

    Specialist is responsible for the following:

    • Conducts multiple seven-week financial literacy workshop for all emergency shelter participants and staff
    • Conduct vocational and educational assessments to assist emergency shelter residents with identifying vocational and educational goals.
    • Identify, cultivate and maintain partnerships with financial institutions, credit counseling agencies, legal services, job training and job placement organizations
    • Refer residents to financial institutions, credit counseling agencies, legal services, job training and job placement organizations as needed.
    • Partner with residents to create the Safe Horizon Financial Resource and Action Plan.
    • Provides one to one consultation with residents to assist with financial and vocational goalsetting, budgeting, and debt repayment plan.
    • Access client credit reports and credit scores as needed
    • Administers financial and resident satisfaction surveys to program participants
    • Assist in program data collection
    • Travel between 6 shelter sites for workshop training and consultation
    • Work closely with case management and social work staff to support the financial and vocational needs of shelter participants
    • Provides technical assistance to case managers, social workers and housing specialists related to financial and vocational services
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Must have a minimum of 2 years of financial literacy training and/ or financial coaching experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field or equivalent training or experience.
    • Good oral and written communication and computer skills are necessary.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
    • Sensitivity to domestic violence, child and sexual abuse is required.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Attend professional development training offered by Safe Horizon including (but not limited to) Client Centered Practice (CCP) skills and Mandating reporting.
    • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and staff
    • Ability to use neutral and non-judgmental language when responding to clients
