    POSITION TITLE: Associate Director of Community Arts Education (Full-Time)

    ACCOUNTABLE TO: The Director of Education and Yollocalli Arts Reach

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Director of Community Arts Education is a key team leader in the Education Department and is responsible for managing all arts education and cultural programming in schools, partnering organizations, and Yollocalli Arts Reach sites through the oversight of the Director of Education and Yollocalli Arts Reach. The Associate Director implements strategies for the success of all programs for all ages within the communities served by the museum. The Associate Director is highly collaborative and works in concert with other museum departments to carry out the strategic vision of the museum through various cross-departmental initiatives, activities, and experiences. The Associate Director acts as an ambassador for the community arts education initiatives to various stakeholders and actively builds and fosters relationships to best serve the programming.

    SCOPE: Reporting to the Director of Education and Yollocalli Arts Reach, the Associate Director of Community Arts Education will be a seasoned leader and coach, with the ability to operate on strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels. The Associate Director of Community Arts Education will be responsible for managing all programming and maintenance of all site locations. This position will work closely with the Director of Education and Yollocalli Arts Reach to continue to develop innovative community arts programming and community development. The Associate Director will be responsible for managing programmatic staff, the success of programs and their impact on its participants, and the continued reputation and growth of the nationally recognized and awarded youth program, Yollocalli Arts Reach, as well as building a national presence for newly developed community arts programming.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee daily operations of our multifaceted community arts education programs and ensure high quality delivery of services for the following initiatives:
      • Out-of-School Time Programs at partnering school sites
      • Community Schools Programs at partnering school sites
      • Yollocalli Arts Reach at all site locations (the Little Village Boys and Girls Club, Malinalli Garden, Barrett Park, and the future Fire Station)
      • Community Arts Education programs at partnering organization sites
    • Keep detailed data and documentation of all programming and report out to the Director of Education and Yollocalli Arts Reach as requested
    • Coordinate the evaluation and presentation of classes, workshops, and events offered to participants
    • Assist the Director of Education and Yollocalli with existing relationships with funders with the goal of ensuring open communications and knowledge of trends and resources in the community
    • Represent the NMMA and the community arts education programs, building relationships and investments with key stakeholders and donors
    • Assist in developing and implementing a system to evaluate the skill, experience and professional development needs of community arts education staff and teaching artists and manage a professional development program to address employee experience and skill gaps
    • Supports the Director of Education and Yollocalli in fostering a strong collaboration with the Development Department to ensure program resources are effectively aligned and utilized in future foundation stewardship strategies
    • Collaborate with the Operations Department to ensure the maintenance and well being of all site locations
    • Oversee and track programming budgets, including artist payroll, material requirements, and additional program resources, under the supervision of the Director of Education and Yollocalli
    • Work with the Director of Education and Yollocalli Arts Reach to align goals with long-term strategies of the department and museum, and develop a coordinated approach to realizing the full potential of the mission of the museum

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in Education, Social Work, Art Therapy, Arts Administration and/or Museum Studies preferred. Bilingual Spanish is preferred. Minimum 5 years experience in arts education, youth education, or community programming at an institution or community center. Previous experience in a managerial position is preferred. Knowledge and interest in all aspects of the Mexican and Mexican-American art experience, contemporary art practices, and art education practices. Ability to work well with others. Flexible hours are required for this position. Must have access to a vehicle due to the travel between program sites which cover the Chicagoland area.

    ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

    • Must be able to plan, prioritize, organize, and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously and independently
    • Must be willing and able to work from the National Museum of Mexican Art at least three days a week or more
    • Employee must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time; carry, lift, push or pull up to 35 pounds
    • Requires the ability to manually operate business machinery
    • Travel within the U.S. with advance notice may be required
    • There is minimal environmental exposure
