Working Class Defender - Senior Organizing Strategist

Addition (a project of Tides Center) exists to seed a new field of working-class organizing of people unlikely to be reached otherwise. We do three things: 1) Launch new working class organizing projects from scratch; 2) Train and support people to do good organizing in common sense language; and 3) Tell the story of what’s possible when we broaden who we organize.

Addition includes our Incubator (launch new organizing), Fundamentals of Organizing training and materials, and our storytelling.

These are challenging times, and more bad things are going to happen to good people. The range of what those will be, we do not know, but we need talented organizers at the ready, with the flexibility to jump in and organize lots of people who have been written off and are under attack.

We are looking for a senior organizer whose job will be to look for when one of those bad things happens, sees a gap in the current field to help people get organized, and be ready to fill that void. It might take weeks, even months to spot that moment, but when it comes you will be ready. You are looking for the most widely and deeply felt issue that arises in the near future and is not being addressed by the current sector.

You would be joining a team of other senior organizers launching new projects to engage working class people from across partisanship who, have been written off and ripped off by elites, and face even greater challenges ahead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Track shifting conditions in the next year.
• Spot need to organize people who are under attack and written off.
• Create means for lots of people to enter into a campaign.
• Move a portion of those people from online to offline organizing.
• Create conditions to blunt attacks of people, and pivot to advancing improvement for people.

Experience and Qualifications

• At least ten years organizing experience.
• Significant digital and distributive organizing chops.
• Have built and run big campaigns and project.
• Ability to think big in terms of what’s possible.
• Great at working with member leaders.
• Training in the fundamentals of organizing.
• Ready to use digital tools to expand organizing reach.
• Creative thinker, self-starter, great team player.

Organizational Relationship

Addition is a fiscally sponsored project of Tides Center. Addition serves as a home for incubating projects to engage the bigger “We” needed to preserve democracy and address the most pressing issues of our time by bringing together experienced, talented, and creative strategists and organizers to be in relationship with segments of the country that have been written off by much of today’s social justice movement. This position will report to a our Project Director. Addition (a project of Tides Center) is a fully remote organization.

There are no significant physical requirements related to this position.

Travel

The amount of travel will depend on the project. Some projects might require significant travel while others could be largely remote.
