    Position Description

    The Major Gifts Officer at NC Child’s primary purpose is to help meet major gift fundraising goals as set by the NC Child’s Executive Director and Board of Directors by engaging and soliciting individual, corporate, and foundation major gifts. They will also expand the leadership annual giving program through in-person engagement and solicitation, pipeline and portfolio development, targeted engagement activities, written proposals, and appropriate stewardship of donors.

    Responsibilities

    Major Gifts Cultivation

    • Manage a personal portfolio of major and leadership level prospective donors. Cultivate, solicit and steward each prospect as needed, maintaining accurate records of moves and showing continual progress toward gifts at these levels.
    • Coordinate regularly with other NC Child staff, including assistance as needed with individual, corporate, and foundation prospects.
    • Conduct donor research and prospect reviews to identify potential donors at the major gifts level from existing or past donors and new prospects.
    • Develop and execute personalized strategies to cultivate and solicit this range of gifts through written proposals, calls, and face-to-face visits.
    • Manage strategic events for major gift prospects designed to further the aims of NC Child.

    Leadership Annual Gifts:

    • Cultivate and solicit leadership annual gifts at the $1,000 level and above from qualified prospects through written communications, calls, and face-to-face meetings.
    • Take advantage of opportunities to develop working knowledge of planned giving.

    Stewardship:

    • Steward major gift donors through personal touches and invitations to special events.
    • Coordinate with other staff to develop, implement, and manage a centralized donor stewardship/recognition program.
    • Maintain timely records of prospect and donor communications/visits in the donor database.
    • Ensure thank you letters and other acknowledgement communications for this position’s major gift portfolio occur in a timely manner.
    • Oversee the development of stewardship reports for individual, corporate, and foundation donors, as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    Candidates should demonstrate the following required skills and /or traits:

    • At least three years of experience and proven track record of success raising major gifts in the range of $10,000 or more
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships quickly, with the appropriate level of assertiveness to solicit and follow up with donor prospects in a timely manner
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate passionately about NC Child and capture the interests of a wide variety of donors
    • Goal-oriented, results-oriented, and detail-oriented, with exceptional planning and time-management skills
    • Working knowledge of computer-related office tools and donor database management systems
    • Availability to travel on occasion to visit donors and prospects throughout North Carolina
    • Some work required during nights and weekends
    • Bachelor’s degree

    Bonus Qualifications:

    The followings skills and/or experience are NOT required. However, please let us know if you would bring any of these assets to the organization:

    • Familiarity with child advocacy issues and policies in North Carolina.
    • Fluency in languages other than English to facilitate communication with diverse donor communities.
    • Experience with public speaking or conducting donor presentations.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit financial management and budgeting processes.

    Position Requirements

    This is a full-time position (40 hours/week). NC Child uses a hybrid work model. This position will be required to spend three days each week in the Raleigh office and must have the capability to travel in North Carolina when needed. They will be reimbursed for all mileage traveled to project sites at the standard IRS rate for business purposes.

    NC Child requires staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
