    Position Title: Outdoor School Program Leader

    Department: Instructional Services / Northwest Outdoor Science School

    Location: Outdoor School (Various Locations in NW Oregon)

    Reports To: Outdoor School Site Supervisor

    Compensation: NOSS Salary Schedule ($20.43 - $24.41 per hour, DOE)

    SPRING 2025 Dates: February 18, 2025-June 3, 2025

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    The Outdoor School Program Leader will assist with all aspects of the Northwest Outdoor

    Science School program. Primary focus is on training and mentoring high school and college

    student volunteers and leading fifth and sixth grade students and volunteers in program

    activities and daily duties.

    This position requires the employee to live on-site during the work week Monday-Friday. Room

    and board are provided. Our program operates at multiple sites in Northwest Oregon near the

    following communities; Vernonia, Salem, Cloverdale, Rockaway Beach, and Welches. This

    position is seasonal, but there may be an opportunity available to continue employment in

    future sessions.

    The employee will be compensated 50 hours per week. Weekly schedules vary from

    Monday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday. Most work weeks are 5 days. Due to the seasonal

    camp-based nature of this position, it is exempt for state overtime wage regulations.

    QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.     1. High school graduate with some college study and/or post-high school work experience.
    2. Paid or volunteer experience in Outdoor School, summer camp, or other residential camp programs preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

    6. Desire and ability to work successfully with children and adults in a residential work environment
    7. Enjoy being outdoors in all types of weather for an entire season
    8. Confer regularly with supervisor and/or designee
    9. Skillfully utilize educational technology and software as required by the position
    10. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development activities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position.

    A. Train Student Leaders (high school and college volunteers) to be effective cabin group

    leaders.

    B. Supervise and engage with students and Student Leaders during all Cabin Time activities

    and transitions ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times. This includes role

    modeling effective time management while leading games, songs, initiatives in a fun,

    friendly, and professional manner.

    C. Lead students and Student Leaders in daily activities, i.e., recreation, campfire

    programs, and mealtime duties (table setting, dining hall clean-up, recycling,

    composting, etc.).

    D. Participate in all phases of the program as assigned (field study support, recreation,

    campfire programs, etc.)

    E. Collaborate with the Program Team and other staff to ensure the wellbeing of students

    and Student Leaders.

    F. Prepare and organize all materials needed for daily activities.

    G. Coach and mentor High School Student Leaders.

    H. Perform other duties as assigned.
