    The Attorney General's Office, New Jersey Racing Commission, is looking for a Veterinarian to join its team. This position will be required to travel between racetracks in East Rutherford, NJ and Oceanport, NJ. The salary for this position will fall within the range of $89,575.39 to $127,744.57. Title and salary offered is non-negotiable and will fall within the range posted.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

    The Attorney General has broad oversight of the state’s legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.

    ABOUT THE DIVISION:

    The New Jersey Racing Commission (NJRC) regulates horse racing in New Jersey. NJRC is a nine-member, bipartisan body appointed by Governor, staffed by a team of career employees who oversee the permitting and licensing procedures of horse owners, trainers, drivers, and veterinarians.

    ABOUT THE POSITION:

    Under direction of a supervisory official within the New Jersey Racing Commission is responsible for:

    • conducts pre-race examinations of the horses to determine racing soundness;
    • observes horses during the races and post-race
    • handles on-track emergencies;
    • takes blood samples from horses; and
    • Performs other related duties as required.
    • This position may require non-traditional work hours, on an as needed basis, including evenings and/or weekends, on short deadlines for certain assignments, with or without advance notice.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

    • Graduation from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) with a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or completion of the training program administered by the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of the (AVMA), or the Program for the Assessment of VeterinaryEducation Equivalence (PAVE) of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), or achievement of diplomat status in any (AVMA) specialty board.
    • Three (3) years of experience in the fieldof animal diseasecontrol or laboratory diagnostic work.
    • Appointees must possessa passing grade, as determined by the test sponsor, on the NationalBoard Exam and theClinical Competency test or equivalent test, or passageof the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), or the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE) of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), or achievement of diplomat status in any (AVMA) specialty board.

    "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.

    OTHER KEY FACTORS:

    • Preference will be given to candidates who possess experience with horses.
