    Shift Schedule: Monday-Friday: 9AM-5PMHours Per Week: 35

    General Responsibilities

    The Housing Compliance Specialist will report to the Director of Housing Risk Management on various compliance-related tasks, including reports and assisting in quality assurance and property audits. The Housing Compliance Specialist is expected to fill in for the JHM Property Managers whenever and wherever one may be out on leave beyond a week.

    This position requires strong knowledge of affordable housing compliance, independent problem-solving skills, flexibility in scheduling, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    A. Tenant Compliance & Oversight:

    • Travel regularly within NYC to JASA Housing Properties to manage tenant-related functions and ensure compliance with HUD Section 8 and Federal Tax Credit regulations.
    • Conduct and/or review annual certifications, admission procedures, interview applicants, and move-in/move-out processes, as required

    B. Interdepartmental Coordination & Compliance:

    • Serve as a liaison between JASA Housing staff and other JASA departments to ensure smooth operations.
    • Track and manage tasks and projects, ensuring timely completion of HUD Special Claims, NYSHCR annual rent registration, and other required reports.

    C. Records & Documentation Management:

    • Maintain and organize rental applications, correspondence, and invoices in DocuWare.
    • File and retrieve corporate records, documents, and reports as needed.
    • Research and compile data for third-party agency reviews.
    • Utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, RealPage/Onesite, Smartsheet, EIV, TRACS, and other assigned platforms.

    D. Office Operations & Administrative Support:

    • Process and distribute incoming mail, emails, and other correspondence.
    • Prepare reports, memos, letters, and other documentation.
    • Assist the compliance team with various waiting list projects.
    • Support asset management functions, including procurement, purchase orders, invoice processing, and reconciliation between RealPage and DocuWare systems.
    • Provide general administrative support as needed.

    E. Additional Responsibilities:

    • Provide appropriate compliance coverage at properties, as needed
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Education: High school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of three years in the affordable housing sector, with expertise in HUD, HPD, HDC, and other regulatory agency requirements. Minimum of five years experience with a high school diploma or GED.
    • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of HPD/HDC Tax Credit property management regulations, compliance, and operations.
    • Certification: Must obtain the Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) certification from NCHM within 90 days of hire.
    • Skills & Abilities:
      • Excellent attention to detail, proactive approach, and commitment to continuous learning.
      • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. ○ Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
      • Proactive problem-solving with sound decision-making skills.
      • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
      • Strong verbal communication and active listening abilities.
      • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-driven environment.
      • Sensitivity to and understanding of elderly residents' needs.
    • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using Realpage/Onesite, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe, and willing to learn additional software as needed.
    • Other Requirements:
      • Must be able to travel throughout NYC as needed.
      • This is a fully in-office position.
