    This is a key leadership function with the primary responsibility being the high-quality design, implementation and growth of all programs and activities. The DDP is an inspiring, strategic and results-oriented leader with strong management, analytical skills and a depth of experience to ensure progress of MIC’s mission and vision. In this phase of MIC, we also envision the DDP to have a more hands-on role with keen attention to detail, ability to juggle administrative tasks, and a proven track record in building and motivating teams.

    POSITION DIMENSIONS:

    Strategic Partnership and Planning

    • Serve as a strategic partner to the Co-Executive Directors and senior program team staff in the iterative design, implementation, management of all programs
    • Ensure alignment across MIC’s core program strategies with MIC’s mission and vision
    • Set and evaluate comprehensive goals and outcomes for MIC’s performance and growth, in collaboration with MIC’s leadership team and Leadership Council
    • Continue to define and refine MIC’s role in the broader ecosystem and the alignment of programs and outcomes with this role
    • Develop program innovations through a blend of proven practices, research and evaluation and experimentation with innovative approaches.
    • Provide strong cross functional partnership for fundraising, operations, and talent management) to promote organizational resilience, continuous improvement and performance management.

    Program Oversight, Implementation and Leadership

    • Oversee implementation of MIC’s program strategy with fidelity; in collaboration, define challenges or problems and objectives, recognize viable alternatives and formulate solutions, with understanding and clear communication of inherent tradeoffs of decisions.
    • Translate strategy into operating plans and outcomes for Program Team and other key staff
    • Lead development of workstreams and plans to guide implementation and goal-setting of strategy and systems to achieve outcomes across all program components
    • Cultivate and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • Develop partnerships critical to the success of program components, advancement of vision, and creation of new program content
    • Model and operationalize a culture of humility and healing, collaboration and partnership, accountability, and listening and learning.
    • Effectively steward resources through cost analysis, budget development and oversight.
      • Lead the Program Team in building their annual budget with ongoing collaboration with the Finance team to review budget to actuals to ensure that program expenses and expenditures stay within the allocated budget.
    • Develop systems and processes to document program progress, successes and challenges
    • Co-lead program assessments and evaluation
    • Develop and manage consultant agreements as needed, including but not limited to: developing scope of work, managing expenses, and serving as a liaison between consultants and MIC

    Team Management

    • Manage MIC’s Program Team by providing direct supervision, guidance, and mentorship of Program staff
    • Create opportunities for team members’ leadership and professional development; empower team to take ownership of strategic goals
    • Build a culture of learning and innovation by supporting the team and leadership in leveraging qualitative and quantitative information and research to inform strategy, refine programs, and achieve measurable outcomes
    • Ensure Program team members are supported, valued, appreciated and motivated to advance MIC’s mission.
    • Oversee Program team meetings and collaboration & communicate across departments on a regular basis to prevent siloed approaches to the work.
    • Co-develop performance goals and plans with direct reports and conduct reviews in accordance with organizational policies
    • Collaborate with the Deputy Director of Organizational Resilience (final title tbd) to attract, hire and onboard, coach, and retain highly engaged and impactful team members, ensuring their development in professional competencies, level of responsibility, program priorities, and performance
    • Be a supportive and empathetic leader with the ability to provide constructive feedback to empower staff
    • Model and foster open dialogue and mutual respect, transparency, accountability and self-reflection

    • A strong alignment with the MIC's mission, values and culture
    • Will have demonstrated success in leveraging lived experience to drive meaningful results and change
    • Combination of related training and progressive program management and leadership experience in social sector organizations for a minimum of ten years
    • 5-7 years of experience working in lead role in power building, movement and community organizing field a plus
    • Execution strength: demonstrated achievement in moving from strategy to action
    • Highly experienced in managing through a systems approach to achieve operational excellence; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and solving complex operational problems
    • Successful track record in building and managing a strong and vibrant team, setting clear goals and evaluating performance, while serving as an effective coach to directors and staff
    • Leadership style that is action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, community-centered and brings an innovative approach to addressing challenges
    • Demonstrated experience in program evaluation and analysis, and developing systems for innovation and quality improvement
    • Ability to leverage qualitative and quantitative data to plan, measure and strengthen program impact
    • Values cross-functional collaboration and building strong and trusted relationships across diverse individuals and groups of stakeholders
    • High-level of cultural awareness and experience working with different demographic and cultural groups
    • A flexible and resilient approach, with the ability to handle strong opinions/feedback well, and adapt to the dynamic nature of a startup environment.
    • Unafraid to tackle issues of race & equity both internally with MIC colleagues and externally with the field
    • Strategic leadership abilities, and the ability to link the development of people with achievement of organizational outcomes.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Ability to effectively present information to diverse audiences (MIC staff, Board of Directors and Advisors, funders, etc.)
    • Exceptional project management and planning skills
    • Excellent computer skills (Google Apps, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.); willingness to learn additional applications and accessible technology as necessary
