    JOB DESCRIPTION

    DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

    The Development Director (DD) for the Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA) is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors by building and maintaining relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations to secure financial support and meet fundraising goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Donor Cultivation and Solicitation

    • Identify and research potential major donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
    • Develop personalized cultivation strategies for each donor and donor prospect to engage them with the organization's mission and programs.
    • Solicit major gifts through face-to-face meetings, presentations, and written proposals, tailoring the "ask" to align with the donor's interests and capacity.
    • Effectively steward donors by providing regular updates on the impact of their contributions and cultivating ongoing relationships.

    Strategic Planning and Goal Setting

    • Collaborate with the nonprofit's leadership team to develop fundraising goals and strategies.
    • Create annual fundraising plans, including major gifts acquisition, retention, and stewardship strategies.
    • Monitor progress towards fundraising goals and adjust strategies as needed to ensure targets are met.
    • Donor Engagement and Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, serving as the primary point of contact for their interactions with the organization.
    • Coordinate donor recognition and stewardship activities, including personalized communications, events, and engagement opportunities.
    • Collaborate with program staff to provide donors with opportunities to see the impact of their contributions firsthand.

    Prospect Research and Pipeline Development

    • Conduct prospect research to identify new donor prospects and understand their philanthropic interests and capacity.
    • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of donor prospects at various stages of cultivation and solicitation.
    • Utilize donor management systems and tools to track interactions, record notes, and manage relationships effectively.

    Collaboration and Teamwork

    • Work collaboratively with the development team, board members, volunteers, and other stakeholders to maximize fundraising opportunities and achieve organizational goals.
    • Provide support and guidance to colleagues involved in donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.
    • Participate in donor cultivation events, fundraising campaigns, and other activities to support the overall development efforts of the organization.

    Qualifications:

    • 3+ years' experience in nonprofit management and/or training, or a combination of a bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university and experience.
    • 3+ years' experience in nonprofit fundraising, focusing on donor relations and major gift solicitation.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and senior leadership.
    • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
    • Familiarity with fundraising databases and donor management software.

    Additional Considerations:

    • Position is primarily remote but may require occasional travel, particularly for donor meetings and events.
    • Evening and weekend work may be necessary to accommodate donor schedules and fundraising activities.
    • Professional certifications in fundraising (such as CFRE) and advanced degrees may be advantageous.

    Hours:

    • 40 hours per week, exempt.
    • Monday through Friday, with some exceptions.
    • Flexible schedule; must be willing to accommodate donors' time zones.

    Compensation:

    • $80,000-$85,000 per year.
    • Personal time off (includes vacation & sick leave) accrued at .0962 hours per hour worked (~25 days per year).
    • Nine paid holidays (including the day after Thanksgiving).
    • Eligible for health insurance after 3 months (employer pays 50%).
    • Eligible for Simple IRA with employer match (up to 3%) after 3 months.
