    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Humane Society Naples (HSN) has partnered with Anderson Impact in its search for a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative leader for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

    As the leader of HSN, the CEO is responsible for guiding the administration, programming, and strategic planning for the organization while working in concert with an experienced executive team and Board of Directors.

    The CEO is the face of the organization, its primary spokesperson, and cultivator of relationships with donors, community leaders, the veterinary community, animal welfare organizations and advocates, government officials, media, volunteers, and other key stakeholders to promote animal welfare and the mission of HSN.

    The Ideal Candidate:

    • Is an experienced, compassionate, and collaborative leader with a commitment to the mission of HSN.
    • Has significant and successful experience working with a Board of Directors.
    • Has demonstrated success in raising philanthropic support, particularly from major and sustaining individual donors.
    • Has demonstrated the ability to build, engage and leverage strategic partnerships.
    • Has sound fiscal, business management, and human resources skills.
    • Is experienced in understanding financial statements for planning, monitoring, and evaluation of organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Is committed to ensuring an organizational culture of inclusivity, collaboration, respect, and accountability.
    • Has exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong personal integrity, and an ability to build effective relationships at all levels.

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in the nonprofit or for-profit sector required.
    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field (such as Public or Business Administration, Animal Behavior, Non-Profit Management); extensive experience or relevant certifications may be substituted for education.
    • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the animal sheltering or animal protection field preferred.

    THE POSITION: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

    The CEO is responsible for the overall management and operation of HSN in compliance with Board-adopted policies and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and laws. S/he is a caring and committed worker who has a strong commitment to the goals and philosophies of the organization with a thorough knowledge of current animal issues, exceptional people skills and the ability to motivate and educate those with whom s/he comes in contact.

    Leadership & Management

    The CEO, reporting to the Board of Directors, is responsible for the strategic operation of the organization, including developing and executing its strategic plan, policies and procedures, budget development and fiscal management, revenue growth, philanthropic outreach, and all elements that support and maintain program delivery. The CEO will be committed to nurturing, mentoring, and motivating both paid staff and volunteers. The CEO will:

    • Develop, implement, fulfill, and monitor the short and long-term business and mission-based objectives approved by the Board of Directors.
    • Supervise and coach executive staff in the fulfillment of organizational operations, adopted policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
    • Insure fulfillment of daily organizational operations, animal and client care standards, and sound business practices.
    • Oversee preparation and execution of departmental budgets on annual basis, to include projected income and expenses; administer and monitor revenues and expenses in relation to annual budget.
    • Ensure compliance with all local and state regulations.
    • Provide a healthy and safe workplace environment in compliance with state and local regulations.
    • Prepare the organization to respond to the community’s needs in time of disaster.
    • Continuously strive to improve the environment for staff and volunteers and build a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, respect, accountability, and program excellence.
    • Ensure there are training opportunities for professional and personal development for staff at all levels.
    • Ensure effective internal communication to ensure staff and volunteers are well informed of decisions that affect them and the organization.
    • Promote effective cross-departmental communication and collaboration.

    There are 75 total staff, with six (6) direct reports to the CEO:

    • Chief Strategy Officer
    • Chief Development Officer
    • Chief Medical Officer
    • Chief Operating Officer
    • Chief Finance Officer
    • Executive Assistant

    Board Relations

    A collaborative and productive working relationship with the Board of Directors is critical to the success of the organization. The CEO will:

    • Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish and guide the strategic vision for Humane Society Naples.
    • Keep the Board of Directors routinely advised of the activities and the financial position of the organization.
    • Make recommendations to the Board of Directors on operating policy, future directions, programs, fundraising activities, and outreach endeavors.
    • Work with the Governance Committee to ensure that the Board of Directors is diversified, is of the highest possible quality, and committed to the welfare of the animals.
    • Work closely with and respond to special requests from the Board of Directors and its committees for information, research, or recommendations.

    Fundraising

    The CEO, considered the lead fundraiser for HSN, is ultimately responsible for its fundraising success, and will be deeply engaged in high level institutional fundraising. The CEO will:

    • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to identify and cultivate relationships with high priority donors and prospects.
    • Actively solicit major gifts in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer and the Board of Directors.
    • Collaborate closely with the Chief Development Officer to ensure that a sound development strategy is in place to raise money among individuals, foundations, and corporations, but not limited to grants, provision of supplies, program underwriting, or event underwriting.

    Advocacy & External Relations

    The CEO serves as the face and voice of HSN, as well as the leading advocate for the organization and its mission. The CEO will:

    • Serve as an articulate and effective spokesperson for the organization.
    • Build positive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the nonprofit and business communities, government, and the media.
    • Advocate for HSN, its mission, and programs to local and state elected officials and government entities.

    Salary & Benefits

    • $200,000 to $210,000 annually, plus comprehensive benefits, including but not limited to:
      • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with generous employer contribution to employee coverage (dependent coverage available at the employee's cost).
      • 403(b) retirement savings plan, with up to 3% employer match after one (1) year of employment.
      • $25k life insurance plan at no cost to the employee.
      • Optional employee-paid disability, accident, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and voluntary life insurance coverage at reasonable group rates.
      • Paid Time Off accrual equivalent to 23 days per year for the first two years; increases to 28 days in Years 3-5, and 33 days Year 6+.
      • Ten (10) paid holidays per year, including the employee's birthday.
      • Paid Parental Leave of up to 6 weeks.
      • Employee discount on veterinary products and services.
    • Relocation expenses negotiable for the successful candidate.
