Brooklyn Political Campaign Communications Director

Khari Edwards for Brooklyn Borough President is seeking a full-time Communications Director for the June 2025 primary election cycle. This is a senior level position for an experienced operative who will be managing all communications operations including media relations, content drafting, social media management, and more. The Communications Director will report directly to the campaign’s general consultant, with an anticipated start date of January 15, 2025.

Responsibilities:

• Develop a full-scale plan for all aspects of the communications plan, including but not limited to a message calendar, social media calendar, press calendar, email calendar, etc
• Serve as the contact person for press inquiries for the campaign and maintain strong press contacts for pitching stories and statements
• Draft all types of communications for the campaign, such as email blasts, social media posts, newsletters, press releases, op-ed, etc
• Lead social media planning and implementation, including maintaining a social media calendar, managing various social media channels, capturing the candidate at events, developing content, and creating growth on social media
• Manage the campaign’s Constant Contact account, including maintaining an email calendar, creating growth, drafting email blasts, and maintaining lists
• Consistently pitching stories and ensuring media coverage of press statements, events, rallies, etc

Experience & Qualifications

• 2-3+ years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility in communications roles, ideally in a political campaign setting
• Demonstrated experience with managing full-scale communications planning and execution
• Deep understanding of social media and press relations
• Well maintained press contacts are a major plus
• Experience in graphic design is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

• Ability to work long or irregular hours, including weekends, as needed

• New York campaign experience or ties to the state
