Doorways is an Arlington-based non-profit agency helping individuals and families create pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault leading to safe, stable and empowered lives. We envision a community where all people live free of violence and have safe and stable housing regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, abilities, language, or national origin. We see a future without homelessness or domestic and sexual violence.
We are seeking individuals to act as Hospital Accompaniment Response Program (HARP) Volunteers. HARP Volunteers respond to local hospitals to support survivors of sexual and domestic violence. HARP Volunteers will provide accompaniment, emotional support, crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals before and after a Sexual Assault Nurse Exam (S.A.N.E.) and/or a domestic violence forensic exams. Volunteers are on-call for two 12 hour shifts each month, with flexible scheduling across all weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and holidays. Volunteers must be available to report to INOVA Fairfax Hospital within 30-40 driving minutes of receiving the call (the hospital is not metro accessible). Preference given to those with availability to be on-call for shifts Monday-Fridays, 6am-6pm.
Please note that volunteers must complete 40 hours of training in person and submit background checks to work directly with clients. We host training cohorts three times per year: Fall (Sep-Nov), Winter (Jan-March), and Summer (April-June). Entrance into cohort is first come first serve. A one year commitment of volunteering is required.
