    95 Counties is seeking a Lead Genealogist to spearhead The Harriet Project, focused on tracing the ancestral roots of Descendants of Slavery in Tennessee. As the Lead Genealogist, you will oversee a team of genealogists and historians, guiding them in research methodologies, data analysis, and documentation practices.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Lead a team of genealogists and historians in researching and tracing the ancestry of Descendants of U.S. Chattel Slavery in Tennessee.
    2. Develop research plans, methodologies, and strategies to efficiently uncover ancestral histories within specified timeframes.
    3. Conduct thorough genealogical research using a variety of primary and secondary sources, including historical records, archival documents, and DNA testing.
    4. Collaborate with team members to verify and cross-reference research findings, ensuring accuracy and reliability of information.
    5. Compile comprehensive summary reports of research findings and results for Descendants, highlighting key discoveries, ancestral connections, and historical contexts.
    6. Work closely with the project team to develop plans for delivering information to Descendants, including presentations, workshops, and educational materials.
    7. Provide guidance and support to Descendants throughout the research process, addressing questions, concerns, and requests for additional information.

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's degree in Genealogy, History, Anthropology, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
    2. Proven experience in genealogical research, with a strong understanding of research methodologies, archival practices, and historical documentation.
    3. Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team of researchers.
    4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with Descendants, project stakeholders, and team members.
    5. Detail-oriented approach, with a commitment to accuracy, thoroughness, and integrity in research practices.
    6. Proficiency in genealogical software and online research tools, with experience in DNA analysis and interpretation preferred.
    7. Knowledge of U.S. history, particularly the history of slavery and its impacts on Descendant communities in Tennessee.
