    Job Title: Volunteer Board Member 

    Harvest Home Farmer’s Market (HHFM) provides low-income communities with access to farm fresh local produce and the education to achieve healthier lifestyles.

    HHFM is a New York City-based, 501(c)3, non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to local, farm-fresh produce in low-income neighborhoods. Founded in 1993, our markets create community gathering places that educate the public about health and nutrition, support regional agriculture, and provide job opportunities. Our farmers’ markets are open six days a week during the farmer's market season; serving all members of each community.

    HHFM operates markets in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. We accept Cash, Credit/Debit, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamp)/ EBT cards, Women's Infant and Children checks (WIC), Farmer's Market Nutrition Coupons (FMNP), Health Bucks, and Health Senior Healthy Shoppers coupons (H2S2).

    HHFM seeks several board members with experience in Human Resources, CPA-Finance, Program Management and Evaluation, Information Technology, Public Relations, Organizational Development, Fundraising,  and a personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

    The board of HHFM organization is a volunteer board.  Members are not paid and dedicate their time and expertise to support the HHFM organization and its mission and collective purpose.

    BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS 

    RESPONSIBILITIES  

    All board members are asked to: 

    • give or solicit at least $3,000 annually between January 1st and December 31st of each  year 
    • sit on at least one board committee and actively participate in discussions that will help  determine policy and direction 
    • sign a Conflict of Interest Statement 
    • provide and maintain up-to-date contact information to help ensure regular communication between other board members and the Chief Executive Officer
    • provide a short biographical statement that may be used with Harvest Home public relations and marketing efforts, with annual reports, and with proposal submissions to government agencies, foundations, funding federations, or businesses. 
    • maintain good attendance at full board and committee meetings, implement and enforce  the policies and procedures of the organization approved by the board 
    • provide written notification by letter or email to the Board Chairperson or the CEO  should you resign from the board before the expiration of your term. 
    • serve without compensation for their duties as board members 

    EXPECTATIONS  

    All board members are expected to: 

    • attend at least 75 percent (4 meetings per year; 2 in person and 2 conference calls) of  full board and committee meetings 
    • provide the organization with resource information to support administrative or program  service activities, including information on funding or marketing opportunities, in-kind or  low-cost resources, and technical assistance  
    • participate in fundraising activities for the organization, in particular fundraising or  networking events hosted by the organization 
    • refer any media inquiries concerning the organization to the Chief Executive Officer
    • read materials about the organization provided by its Chief Executive Officer, in  particular minutes from full board or committee meetings, periodic program or financial  reports, the organization’s audit and 990 reports, and the annual program report
    • actively participate in discussions that occur at full board and committee meetings
