    Board of Trustee

    Tomorrow’s Leaders NYC, Inc. (TLNYC) is a non-profit organization is to help middle school and high school students overcome social, emotional, and academic challenges and become positive and productive leaders of their community. An over-age student is one who has to repeat a grade one or more times. Tomorrow’s Leaders NYC currently provides it's programs throughout New York City. We provide academic support, mentoring, family support, vocational trips/workshops, life skills classes, and community service projects for our students.

    The Board will support the work of TLNYC and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. TLNYC’s founder/executive director leads day to day operations, the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. TLNYC's Board Members must serve a two-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for an additional term. Board meetings will be held monthly and committee meetings will be held bi-monthly. Board Member responsibilities include:

    • Leadership, governance and oversight
    • Regularly attends board meetings and related meetings; reviewing meeting agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
    • Involved in establishing annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
    • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director
    • Assisting the Executive Director and Board President in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
    • Partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
    • Serving on committees or task forces; taking on special assignments and completing them in a timely and thorough manner
    • Representing TLNYC to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
    • TLNYC expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution in accordance to the Board's annual bylaws (board annual give/get is $2,500 per year)

    Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

    • A commitment to and understanding of TLNYC’s beneficiaries
    • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of TLNYC’s beneficiaries
    • Years of expertise in one of the following areas: education, public relations, marketing, entrepreneurship, law, and finance.
