The Public Education Foundation partners with the community and the Clark County School District to meet immediate, critical education needs that will strengthen our public schools. We currently have 4 different areas we need volunteer assistance (see below).
Scholarship Plus Scholarship Reviews:
Thousands of prospective students fill out scholarship applications with PEF in hopes of receiving financial assistance as they seek out higher education. Once they complete their application, PEF needs hundreds of volunteers to review and score scholarship applications to help change more than 1,000 students' lives. Typically we ask for assistance with 20+ application reviews that take less than 5 hours to complete and change a student's life (but you can always help with more applications if you desire).
Skills or Resources Needed: You will need access to a computer/smartphone and the ability to connect to the internet. Feel free to do this in the comfort of your home, at a coffee shop with Wifi, or wherever you’re able to focus and read through the applications.
Book Bus:
The Book Bus connects students with free books to increase literacy and spark interest in reading among students and their families. Typically, when someone wants to volunteer, it's often on a Saturday for 2-4 hours. The inside of a school bus has been transformed into a mini library, and the volunteers assist the kids with finding 2 books that they get to take home with them for FREE. For some of these kids, it might be the first book that is their very own. We often need up to 4 volunteers at a time for those events since the bus isn't large enough to hold more than that number of volunteers.
Skills or Resources Needed: Ability to go up and down stairs of a bus. Comfortable with approaching strangers to help the children find books.
Classroom in a Box:
When we receive monetary donations for the Classroom in a Box, we find a group of volunteers to assist a classroom of students in an hour or less. For this, we need assistance packing the objects necessary for a student to be successful in their classroom as well as being able to complete their homework on a daily basis.
Skills or Resources Needed: Sorting and placing objects into a box.
PEF events:
Throughout the year, PEF holds events like Tee Up For Education, Black Girl Magic, Golden Apple Gala, Hispanic and Latino Legacy Dinner, and a few others. We occasionally need volunteers to help these events run smoothly as we raise funds to change lives in a variety of groups in our community.
Skills or Resources Needed: This will be dependent on the event and need.
Please let us know which events you’d be interested in, and our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you with further information.
