The Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP) is a volunteer-driven, listener-supported radio station built and run by independent-minded music and arts fans. CHIRP is always live and local, connecting Chicago’s diverse creative communities through its programming, podcasts, features and live events (including The First Time, an award-winning live literature and music event). CHIRP was built with the purpose of embracing all that is good about radio: its potential for new music discovery, the sense of community it creates among listeners. At CHIRP, we believe that radio, done well, can make you feel slightly less alone in the world in a way your Spotify account never will.
Since 2010, CHIRP has been broadcasting worldwide at chirpradio.org; in 2017, CHIRP launched its terrestrial broadcast at 107.1 FM, serving its neighbors on the north side of Chicago. CHIRP plays a wide mix of local, independent, lesser-heard, and just generally good music from a variety of genres and eras.
CHIRP’s listener base is growing and the station is poised for additional expansion. As a result, we are seeking additional Board of Directors members to help increase CHIRP’s reach and visibility and ensure that the station has the resources it needs to sustain its long-term growth and stability.
CHIRP’s Board is responsible for defining and upholding the organization’s mission, vision, and values, for providing overall leadership and strategic direction to the organization, and supporting the station’s fundraising and outreach efforts. CHIRP’s Board meeting every 2 months, with each member participating in at least one Board committee and special projects as required. At this time, CHIRP seeks professionals who identify with CHIRP’s mission, with particular emphasis on expertise in the areas of finance, fundraising, and marketing. If this describes you, we invite you to apply here: CHIRP Radio Board of Directors Application
