Full Stack Developer

Position: Senior full-stack developer (volunteer–unpaid)

Location: Remote, US-based organization

Duration: Min 6 months. 5 hours per week.

Wevise is a nonprofit founded in 2022. Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable and build a more diverse and inclusive tech community through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities. We’re a team of committed volunteers from a diverse set of backgrounds who are committed to leveling the playing field in tech (and beyond).

In June 2023, we launched our inaugural program - a mentorship platform crafted for individuals seeking personal or professional mentorship, particularly those from economically marginalized backgrounds or facing unique challenges.

We are looking for several driven full-stack developers to join our team at Wevise. This volunteer role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a startup-like environment in the tech sector. Your involvement will not only be a significant boost to your professional growth but also a fulfilling experience as you witness your efforts positively impacting lives. You’ll be joining a dev team of 6-8 other developers.

Note that this is an unpaid, volunteer position.

Responsibilities 

• Complete tasks listed on ClickUp by the end of each sprint period, with an expectation of working 5-10 hours per week on average
• Connect with the project coordinator and team as needed
• Offer guidance and support to less experienced team members
• Participate in weekly technical calls and bi-weekly all-team meetings (scheduled on Wednesdays), as well as product/design/tech meetings bi-weekly on Mondays
• Actively engage in product development and organizational discussions

Requirements

• Motivated with a problem-solving mentality eager to learn and adapt to build modern full-stack solutions
• Minimum 5 years of real-world experience
• Proficient in building applications using popular technologies and frameworks
• React, NextJS, Tailwind
• MySQL, Prisma
• Cypress Test Framework
• Storybook
• Terraform/Terragrunt
• Experience in NodeJS and ExpressJS backend environments.
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Familiar with code reviews and pull request processes
• Experience with cloud services like AWS, Azure, and GCP (a plus).
• Contribute a minimum of 5 hours a week
• Have a GitHub or past development work that you can cite
