Volunteer Position: Fundraising & Resource Development for Women’s Shelter in Southern Madagascar

    About the Organization

We are a young organization dedicated to establishing the first shelter in Southern Madagascar for women who have been victims of violent rape and forced marriage at a young age. In addition to providing shelter, medical care, and psychological support, we aim to operate job-training programs to support women’s holistic recovery, offering professional training and assistance in reintegrating into the workforce.

Eldad Garfunkel, funder & CEO, is currently on-site in AMBOVOMBE (Madagascar) until January 17, 2025, working to launch the shelter’s construction and development.

    Role Overview

We seek a volunteer to assist with fundraising and resource development – from researching funding sources and writing grants to running crowdfunding campaigns and reaching out to philanthropic donors. The remote position will involve close collaboration with our team in Madagascar and elsewhere, ensuring complete transparency regarding the organization’s activities, project progress, and relevant budgets.

    Responsibilities

      • Grant Research & Writing: Identify relevant foundations and donors, write compelling grant proposals, and submit applications.
      • Donor Outreach: Contact individual donors, organizations, and corporations to establish and maintain long-term partnerships.
      • Fundraising Campaigns: Develop and lead digital campaigns (e.g., social media efforts), including online crowdfunding initiatives.
      • Reporting & Transparency: Track all donations, update donors regularly, and maintain clear documentation to ensure full transparency for everyone involved.
      • Collaboration with Field Team: Work closely with Eldad and the local staff to align on-the-ground needs with fundraising goals.

    Required Skills / Qualifications

      • Passion for the Cause: Genuine interest in women’s rights, combating gender-based violence, and making a meaningful impact.
      • Fundraising / Grant Writing Experience: Prior experience in resource development, grant writing, or donor relations is a significant advantage.
      • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (French or Malagasy is a plus).
      • Initiative & Creativity: Thinking outside the box, adapting quickly to change, and generating innovative fundraising ideas.
      • Organizational Abilities: Capable of tracking grant deadlines, donor communication, and follow-up activities in an organized manner.
      • Commitment & Reliability: Availability to dedicate a flexible number of hours per week and manage tasks independently toward clear objectives.

    Volunteer Terms & Future Opportunities

      • Remote Role: This volunteer position can be done anywhere (flexible hours).
      • Young Organization: We currently operate on a limited budget, but there is potential for future paid opportunities as the project grows and succeeds.
      • Whole Transparency: We pledge to share all relevant details with the volunteer, including project goals, processes, fund use, and internal reporting.

    Benefits of Volunteering

      • Direct Social Impact: Play a key role in a life-saving initiative supporting women survivors of rape and forced marriage.
      • Professional Growth: Gain hands-on experience in grant writing, donor outreach, and international fundraising.
      • Potential Future Employment: Grow alongside our young organization and join the team on a paid basis.
      • Supportive Team: Collaborate with passionate individuals committed to real social change and women’s empowerment.
