    AHO Student Society Volunteer Role Description

    Are the Africa Health Organisation (AHO)’s mission and vision inspired you? Do you want to set up or participate in the AHO Student Society at your university, college or school? If you have answered yes to both questions, you are the right person to be our AHO Student Society Volunteer at your university, college or school.

    AHO is an international health agency for Africa and the Diaspora. AHO is looking for a motivated individual to be a volunteer in its student society to start or participate in a student society.

    Starting or joining a university society is a must for any student. Whether you’re a sports enthusiast or want to join a society to build upon those lovely skills, employers will be desperate for when you graduate. As a society volunteer, you must have a vision for the AHO society and how you intend to move forward.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    To set up a student society:

    • Firstly, contact the Student Union (SU) to inform them that you need to set up the AHO Student Society
    • Secondly, you need to set up the AHO Student Society at your institution with the help and support of AHO (contact our Head of Students Society).
    • Thirdly, you need to have an executive committee including the Vice, Secretary, Treasurer and Officers
    • Then, you need to register with your student union (SU). The SU will guide you through the process.
    • Finally, you must encourage student body members to join the AHO Student Society.

    Your duties will include but not be limited to:

    • Setting agendas, targets and deadlines,
    • Attend Society Officer Training and Society AGM
    • Calling and chairing meetings, ensuring everything is covered, and no one dominates.
    • Ensuring that your society adheres to the society’s constitution.
    • Delegating tasks –you shouldn’t do everything yourself!
    • Be a spokesperson/figurehead and represent your society whenever you can.
    • Being the primary contact for the students’ union to get in touch with if there’s an issue.

    Society Continuity after Graduation

    • Ensure effective succession planning and a smooth leadership transition before you graduate.
    • Knowledge transition and retention to the next generation of members
    • Creates a learning culture, fosters student engagement, and enhances retention by providing clear leadership pathways and growth opportunities within the society
    • Ensuring future leaders possess the necessary skills, competencies, and values to drive society forward and adapt to evolving conditions.
    • Developing future leaders by providing targeted training, mentoring, and leadership opportunities.
    • Enhance student engagement and ensure that meetings and events provide students satisfaction.
    • Encourage students to engage with AHO and participate in AHO annual events, including visiting AHO offices in your country and Africa.
    • Arrange students to apply for AHO volunteering, internships, traineeships, and career opportunities so that they can experience the benefits of being part of the AHO Student Society.
