    Su Casa – Ending Domestic Violence (Su Casa) is seeking applications to fill an open seat on its governing board of directors. This dynamic nonprofit organization welcomes inquiries about this important role from individuals who are committed to supporting Su Casa’s programs that protect families from domestic violence. Candidates selected for board service will be effective ambassadors for the organization’s guiding philosophy that “…every individual has the right to live free from the threat of violence.”

    About the Opportunity

    Led by Board Chair Deborah Vince, Su Casa’s governing board collaborates with community and public sector partners to: “…empower individuals and families to live free from domestic abuse and build partnerships with communities to end domestic violence.” Su Casa is entering an exciting phase of leadership transition, strategic renewal, and programming growth. Accordingly, this seat will be filled by a seasoned professional bringing previous governing board and/or service as a chief executive reporting to a governing board. Applicants and nominees should be experienced executives and/or leaders from a variety of professional fields, and will be asked to devote their talents, time, and financial support to strengthen Su Casa’s programs and services. Priority consideration will be given to applicants and nominees who have demonstrated professional or community-based experience in Accounting, Corporate or Nonprofit Management, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, or Law.

    Primary Board Member Roles & Responsibilities

    ● Participate in quarterly in-person board meetings , board retreats, and special meetings.

    ● Oversee financials, including adoption and oversight of annual operating budget.

    ● Assure a process is in place to select and evaluate the Executive Director.

    ● Take an active interest in domestic violence issues and legislation; engage in advocacy efforts.

    ● Serve as a goodwill ambassador for Su Casa by championing its mission, programs and values.

    ● Maintain strict confidentiality regarding Su Casa’s operations, clients and shelter locations.

    About Su Casa – Ending Domestic Violence

    Su Casa was founded in 1979 by Ms. Petra Medelez, a domestic abuse survivor, whose vision to fill her community with peaceful homes eventually led to a range of model services, including shelter from immediate danger, case management, counseling, shelter-based certified childhood education, community awareness training, and transitional housing. SCEDV is committed to diversity and empowerment, values each individual and embraces the ethnic and cultural diversity prevalent in Southern California.
