About Us

Vietnam Animal Aid and Rescue-US a registered US 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2013. We operate an animal rescue shelter and farm sanctuary in Hoi An, Vietnam. We also have a collaboration with the Vietnamese government (Phong Dien Wildlife Rescue) to care for animals rescued from the wildlife trade. We are working to build the first and only macaque rescue, rehab, release project in addition to caring for other trafficked species, both exotic and native

VAAR is currently the only animal rights organization in Vietnam that explicitly advocates for a fully vegan lifestyle and the abolition of all animal use in the name of animal rights, the environment, food security, and public health.

About the Role

We are seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you’ll play a key role in shaping our future, providing oversight and strategic guidance, and ensuring our work remains ethical, sustainable, and mission-aligned.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend quarterly board meetings (remote via Zoom)
• Oversee compliance, ethics, and financial health of the organization
• Assist in fundraising and donor engagement efforts
• Help set and review strategic goals and impact metrics
• Support the Executive and Operations Directors as needed
• Serve as an ambassador for VAAR’s mission and values

We’re Especially Looking For Board Members With Experience In:

• Nonprofit governance or leadership
• Fundraising and major donor development
• Grant writing and institutional partnerships
• Animal rights, vegan advocacy, or sanctuary operations
• Marketing, public relations, or digital campaigns
• Financial oversight and nonprofit budgeting

What We’re Looking For

• Must be vegan / fully aligned with vegan values and animal liberation
• Committed to anti-oppression principles and equitable leadership
• Comfortable with remote collaboration and flexible time zones
• Experience living or working in Southeast Asia is a plus
