    My Place Home for the Homeless is seeking passionate individuals to join our board of directors who want to make a difference in the lives of individuals experiencing displacement by homelessness in Buffalo, NY.

    About Us

    My Place Home for the Homeless, Inc. 501(c)(3) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2008 by Reverend Reginald E. Kerr and his wife, Sarah. Since 2021, we have assisted disadvantaged and special needs women by providing temporary/emergency shelter and meals, and supplying resources for mental health and medical services, job training, clothing, and transportation.

    To build independence for homeless individuals and families by providing access to resources needed to sustain a better quality of life.

    We desire to expand our services to various low-income communities across the United States with high rates of homelessness to be a force of change as we encourage self-sustainability and possibilities for a better future.

    Overview:

    We are seeking dedicated individuals to serve on the Board of Directors for My Place Home for the Homeless, Inc. who are passionate about serving homeless communities. Ideal candidates should possess knowledge of business development and planning, finance, fundraising, history of leadership in the nonprofit sector and/or social work. Must exhibit personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and passion for improving the lives of My Place Home's beneficiaries. The Board will support the work of My Place Home by providing mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by My Place Home’s chief executive officer (CEO), the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is expected as a critical component to growth and professionalism.

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for developing policies and overall performance of My Place Home
    • Voting on key policies, revising bylaws, HR policies, code of ethics, etc.
    • Represent My Place Home to stakeholders; act as an ambassador, spreading the mission and goals
    • Building relationships and networking on behalf of My Place Home
    • Approving the annual budget, making financial forecasts and business strategies; being informed of and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities
    • Fundraise, find donors and sponsorship opportunities
    • Selecting/Hiring an Executive Director
    • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
    • Monitoring progress and challenges on a quarterly basis
    • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by My Place Home, thereby evaluating impact and regularly measuring for performance and effectiveness
    • Ensure My Place Home has a diverse board and quality staff members

    Fundraising

    My Place Home Board Members will consider My Place Home a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. My Place Home should be able to credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals. My Place Home expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution commensurate with their capacity.

    Board Terms & Participation

    My Place Home Board Members would commit to serving a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings will be held quarterly, and committee meetings will be coordinated with full board meetings.
